BC Fires

A few days ago near Nelson, BC

We just eclipsed our worst ever fire year, 1958, with over 3500 square miles of forest burnt. And we are only half way thru the fire season.

Oh man @billiebob, you folks just can't catch a break! At this point, I don't even know what to say.

To put this in perspective for the locals here, the Tillamook Burn (all four fires combined that made up the Tillamook fire complex) burned 550 square miles. That was a legendary local fire, and became part of the local culture and vernacular. Your fires have consumed SEVEN TIMES as much forest land and are still going.

We're praying for you buddy, you need it.

Wow! How far away from you at this point? Are they getting closer or being contained?

90 miles. In our valley we are very lucky. We are also kinda remote with 3 ferries and 2 bridges restricting tourists. People here understand the risks. Our logging industry is at a stand still. Most mills are being resourceful finding logs to stay open. No one has been in the bush working for the past month. It definitely hits the economy to have all the fallers and all the equipment parked.
