Beginners guide to recovery?

I am not sure about resources, but safety and experience are big factors in success. Since I have been "wheeling" (1994ish), things have changed a lot. Or at least in the way I carry and train in recovery. Synthetic has changed the face for me a bunch. So look for current info when possible.

Most books are outdated these days. Ronny Dahl on youtube has some great introductory videos that have good information and describe what basic set of gear is good to have. The traction boards are a bit of a stretch here in California in my opinion but everything else is great.

Advice here is good for specific questions if you listen to people like Blaine that advocate slow and safe. Best advice when stuck I've ever heard is stop, get out and setup tea. Take a break and work out a solution, nobody is going to fall off a cliff in the next two seconds. It also really helps to have an experienced buddy to help out. Good and safe recoveries don't require all the latest and greatest gear. Just the basics, common sense and patience.

Just for posterity sake. Here are some links i found on another thread.

This is a great resource: http://www.billavista.com/tech/Articles/Recovery_Bible/index.html

Written a while ago before kinetic straps and soft shackles became common in offroading, so keep that in mind.

Here is another: https://outdoorx4.com/stories/stuck-assessment-recovery-plan/#
