I’ve yet to experience the need, but if I needed to momentarily throttle up during winching or airing up while outside of my rig, I’d probably just shim open the throttle body using something like coins or whatever got the job done.
I’ve yet to see the need, but if you needed to momentarily throttle up while winching or airing up while outside of your rig, you could probably just shim open the throttle body using something like a small allen key or coin(s).
Why? And only works if you have a TB you can do this with... If you have TBW instead of TBC then you do need some type of throttle setting device if you want to increase your RPM's.
Isn't it GREAT we each get to choose what features we want for our rigs? I'll be adding a hand throttle again to mine. Not for use while driving but for those times I need the raised RPM's and the ability to set it and it'll stay there.
Some folks I've talked with who have a hand throttle really liked it and when off-road they used it more than they did their accelerator. As I said when I tried it I didn't like it but there are those who do.
I don’t care if ppl want one they can do as they please.
BTW, I edited my post to say “I” not “you”.
I’m able to raise my RPMs at the throttle using my hand, so please explain why I couldn’t do that using a shim.
You can use a penny or a washer or a rock if it trips your trigger but IMO WHY? If you've determined that need to on occasion raise your RPM's then why not have something installed that allows you to do so? I'd much rather adjust a hand throttle than have to raise the hood & put a shim on my TB. Again personal preference.
I can't shim my TB so if I want to raise my RPM's I need some type of hand throttle. And I'll be installing on for those times I need to raise my RPM's.
Looking to install a hand throttle on my 04 TJ Sahara. What are best options? Many thanks!

There are a few styles. The bicycle stuff,a pull knob like old factory jeeps and some other oem's and t handle types.the last two can be had in a twist lock variety from the factory.
When I get around to installing one it will be the heavy duty t handle twist lock one i got years ago off something in a junk yard. Only downside to those is needing to drill a mounting hole somewhere in your dash or add a bracket.
I haven't used the bicycle stuff, but I have used the oem ones and like them.
Don't worry about the clowns arguing over the uses. They don't know what they don't know, and it isn't our job to teach them

Doesn't your welder provide a throttle control? Can you use that when winching or compressing?
I've never used mine when wenching, but I can see certain circumstances where it might help while wrenching...
- it will somewhat increase the output of an alternator for winching
It doesn't do it automatically if that is what you're asking. They include a verneir throttle kit to install along with the welder. As pointed out already doing this on a TBW rig is a little more challenging than a TBC rig. Jeff did a good job of setting it up on his rig and I plan on trying something similar on mine.
I know it's not automatic, I've seen Jeff's work.
Then you knew the answer to your question already.
This was my question -
"Doesn't your welder provide a throttle control? Can you use that when winching or compressing?"
In response to you adding an additional hand throttle when it'd be redundant if the answers to my questions are yes's. Which is why I asked.
When I saw Jeff's he was only welding.
I don’t use it often, but it’s handy when I need it
