I'm late to the party, but I like the idea. I don't see what's patentable. The soft shackle stuff came from sailboats a long time ago, and there's nothing new to tying on into the end of a line.
I've tied small shackles myself. Here's a good resource:

Should be light, safe, and save money if you do it yourself. No need for a $150 thimble when you can just tie a diamond knot.
