I have a 2006 Wrangler TJ, has anyone used this kit before on the front axle side lower control arm bolt and nut? The bolt has a d shape. The washers are not the same as pictured, they are off center. My original hardware which I haven't removed yet looks centered on the washer.


Can anyone recommend another kit, or just try to find regular bolts and nuts?

You don't need the cam bolts. You can go to any hardware store out there and buy the appropriate nuts, bolts, and washers to replace yours with.

I read that only the early years need cam bolts, I thought the kit was a regular style set up. I guess Ill have to hunt down some normal style bolt nut and washers.

I havent even started work yet and they look terrible

If that's your actual control arm then be prepared with new arms and hardware as I'll pretty much guarantee the bolts and bushing sleeves have bonded into one. That way you only have to cut it free and drop which is a PITA project.

I have a new arm ready because I realized removing the bad bushing from the old one may not be practical. The new one is a MOOG control arm I got for 25 bucks. I thought I had all the appropriate hardware but I misunderstood alot about the difference between early tj and later model bolts. I thought the later ones like my 2006 still had Cam bolts but that they were centered or non adjustable.

For the frame mounting area I got some hardware for it separately. M14x2.0x110, which is slightly longer, with the appropriate nut and washers.

So far my biggest issue before even starting is how to get a socket on the back inside area of the front driver side lower. I can fit a normal wrench back there for removal maybe, but for torquing down not sure how that's gonna work. Maybe I need a better swivel socket.
 
For anyone running across this thread I needed a crowfoot style attachment to remove or tighten the nut side of the LCA axle mount. On the bolt head side I think I just used a short impact socket to tighten down after turning the steering knuckle out of the way. On the frame side depending on how your driveshaft is tilted you should have plenty of space.

For the bolts themselves I think I bought them off Amazon because I couldn't find the 105m length? Then later I opted to go to a local hardware store and use 100 in its place because I didn't like the extra threads sticking out. I used grade 8 regular nuts not locking. If I remove a control arm again I will use locking nuts but so far no backing off has occurred. I counted the threads and monitor them on occasion.

I didn't technically need them, but BMB jj washers were extremely helpful in centering out the axle side bolt with the frame and axle on stands. I imagine a person could with the jeep on the ground roll it into the proper position then torque it down with regular bolts nuts and washers. Or you could crank it down while the axle is on stands and if it doesn't move after dropping it back down on all 4 tires should be good to give it the final tightening. I just used the jj washers because it was easier.
