Brilliant or crazy?

So as some of you know my TJ was hit while parked on the street last year. My buddy is my Machanic and he and his crew were hit hard by COVID so the Jeep has been sitting for some time.

We are doing engine work this weekend and should start bodywork next. I bought a set of replacement flares as two were damaged but got a crazy idea and wanted to share it with you. I actually test fit it so I know it will work but it is for sure out there.

I did a quick rendering on my iPad.

My idea is to use rear flares on the front. Tabs and holes as well in a side extension will need to be added to the fender and the flare will need to be cut in the front but this completely eliminates what I feel is the ugliest part of the TJ, the weird shaped marker lights.

I will also be adding JK signal lights to the grill to round out the look.

So what do you think, brilliant or crazy.?

In my opinion, based on the iPad rendering, I’d say it looks good.

Overall it looks pretty good, however there’s still something funky at the end of the hood and the front of the flare. I’d love to see what you can do there!

Doing it is easy. Doing it so that it doesn't look like a hot mess is a bit more difficult. I'm looking forward to seeing the result of your work.

not any fuglier than what the factory gave us.

any road regulations about the direction that turn signal has to face, since it's no longer visible from the front.

The real question here is......why? If you already bought the replacement set of flares, just replace and sell the old ones. Use all that time you just saved to drink beer.

If it bothers you that much i would just get clear or black tinted side markers and call it a day. Hacking all this up sounds like it will end up looking bad.

Other option could be just to fill in the existing hole and repaint?

What would you do with the metal part of the fender?
Sorry, I don’t understand?

The metal fender would need to have some sheet metal added to make up the difference of where the old flare ended and where the new flare ends. If that is what you were asking?

It will need to be sorted out and the render was just on my iPad. Even before it was hit I had already planned on doing the JK grill light conversion and wielding in the rectangular opening on the fender so wielding some additional material is not a lot of extra work.

It’s the shape, not the color.

I am a builder so the fabrication part is fun for me.

It is going to look like someone hacked up a rear flare, boogered in a plate to cover the gap at the front, and then heat gun melted the front of the flare to form it which will make that set of flares we drug out of the camp fire look awesome.
We shall see. I don’t do shitty work so if I go there it will be done right.
