Building a tool bag

This is a tool roll I use for a lot of my larger tools. It was sewn by my wife.

The large flap on the tool roll is great for keeping tools and parts out of the dirt.

I also use several of the larger pouches in this set for sockets etc.

These combined with a couple of really old Klein canvas pouches ride in a Home Depot Black Friday Special tool bag. One of the Klein bags holds my electrical repair kit minus my multi meter.

Wrenches are in a wrench roll.

Keep it simple. I have 1 bag for all my recovery stuff including the winch controller. A metal toolbox for all the tools I want, which includes those tools to help do repairs at my sons house. Plus a bag in the house for overnight essentials. Including a change of dry clothes. There is always a tiny pouch of first aid essentials. Enough for 1 victim. And always some water and Gaterade. The farmer chain and booster cables go back to the 1970s.

I envy you guys in dry climates. Use a tool roll in BC and 6 months later the bundle is full of rust.

put in a sealed plastic bag, most of these little zip bags will easily fit into a 1G ziplock bag

For storage I have found that the MTM cases are great option. They are lightweight, water "resistant" (they have an o-ring seal), have grab handles, and are available in a few different sizes.

I use a roll organizer for loose hand tools and smaller cases for things like sockets, bolts, nuts, washers. Recovery gear is organized in one case and parts and tools are in a separate case.

Similar to my setup. I have a large plastic tool box that holds a recovery strap and chain. Along with a few of the larger sockets (36 and 21 mm), spare ujoints, usually a little bit of gear oil, channel pliers and ratchets. My small metal box holds wire of various sizes, heat shrink, electrical connections, tape (tfe, electrical, and duct tape), fuses, screw drivers, wire strippers, and miscellaneous nuts/bolts.

I'm considering a surplus military (London bridge or Eagle industries) 3 day assault pack for tools, fuses, plug kit, and other Jeep specific items. Leave it packed and in the Jeep, ready to grab at a moments notice.

These bags are the sh*t. Especially if you want something you can take in and out of your Jeep. They have carrying straps. And come in two sizes medium and large. I've had several of these for decades now. and they are still going strong. Lots of compartments for things. And a large center bag area that would hold anything. Also two hidden velcro pouches on the sides to hide a handgun if necessary.

I love these as well. I’ve had the regular sized one for years.
I think I paid less than $20 for mine.

It lives permanently behind the seat of my pick up truck.

Ya. They go on sale all over the place. That isn't the only place to get them. Check google you'll probably find them even cheaper. Or from China directly. I have separate ones for photography, shooting, tools etc. etc. GREAT bags.

I ended up buying all 5, all 3 tan sizes and both of the small green ones. The medium sized tan box around 8" tall makes a really nice cabinet, everything you dont want to crush like crackers and bread fit in it really nice.
