Camping with kids - tips and activities

Coming up on my third Dads camping trip. This trip will be with a mixed group of kids (boys & girls, 4-11) and looking for some new tricks and activities. We’ve got a day hike on the AT to Preacher’s Rock in Suches GA but need to fill in time Friday evening and the rest of Saturday.

Open to any new ideas for games or general kids camping tips and tricks.

Can never go wrong with scavenger hunts!!! Limitless possibilities. They even have iSpy decks of cards for long drives to your destination. Kids love rewards, so don't forget to pack plenty of Halloween sized candy.

Got a gps? See if there are any geocaches in the area.

I have been thinking of getting a decent portable telescope for camping trips. That's more a night time thing I guess though.

Scavenger hunt idea is a good.
Capture the flag, depending on how many you have in your group.
