Can’t get 4WD shifter into 2H

He got the shifter plate to go into the 4H position but if he's needing to shift into 3rd at such a low speed because it keeps revving up, then I'd say he's definitely actually in 4L, regardless of the shifter position. Definitely got some things wrong inside that t-case.

Before doing that, maybe he should run it, get down and smell if he's burning up the clutch?

Right now all the advice seems like chasing...when it's time to back up and make sure the major work done was done correctly.

Wow, so I’m stuck in 4L. Okay this makes sense. What doesn’t make sense is how I can grab neutral and shift past neutral and it’s still in 4L.

There has been major confusion in this thread caused by what I would say is questionable information given. I think at this point we need to see a photo of the shifter plate on the transfer case to make sure it's not upside down (it can be used either way potentially), and reevaluate that he is understanding which position of the lever equates to which drive mode of the t-case.

He is clearly driving on it, so I think the clutch job is probably fine.

Yes, I’m not getting any power. Lots of revs, no power with the 4WD light on, as it is stuck in 4H. Tried again to pull the lever all the way forward, no dice. Calling it quits on this one until winter break. Thanks for everything fellas

By the way, I get you. When you do a big job and it seems like nothing works....it makes you crazy.

My experience, maybe not the best...but is to take a breath. Step away, if you're a musician, go play some of your favorite songs. Give it a minute. Come back, think through what you did, maybe watch a video on what you did, and see if you missed something. That's just me...I've laid on a crawler under my Jeep for a long while....rethinking my steps before I start yanking other things apart.

Can you upload a pic of the shifter plate that you are shifting? I'm wondering if you got it upside down and are confused about which position is which.

Again I thought he'd disconnected the shifter and was shifting the t-case by hand? If that is the case then the shifter plate has nothing to do with it. And that is what he said.

I don't remember any questionable information but OK. Not going to go bad and try to find it.

You're in 4LO right now. Now try moving it forward as far as you can. It should go 3 clicks. Neutral then 4HO & then 2WD. If it only goes into 4HI still take it for a drive and let us know what it's doing.

He’s shifting the transfer case by hand using the lever bolted to the sector plate…look at his photo, his plate is upside down for a TJ.

I shouldn’t say questionable, it more a lack of information we can work with to help. With no pics we can’t do much. The pic of the lever helps a lot.

He needs to flip the plate and reevaluate each shift. The plate is facing up which is how it should be on a YJ…down on a TJ.

Drive went great. Okay so I’m in 4H now. I wasn’t able to get into 2WD but I’m thinking maybe like the other guy said I have the plate the wrong way. Gona flip it around and see if I can get into 2wd

DAMN fat fingers....

Worked. I’m in 2H now. I’m gona reconnect the linkage

Yahooo.... Glad you got it figured out.... Now why not send that front driveshaft back to RockAuto and just buy a 1310 u-joint to replace your bad one? Save you a little money?

I’m gonna go ahead and double down on my “dick wadedness” and just say bravo to all you who have hung on to this point.

Communication was lacking, but he made a simple mistake upon reassembly…everyone deserves a little help. To a certain point, at least.

Still nothing good to contribute huh? You show up to make another snarky comment. I notice that you’re from Alabama…. Is being a dipshit a side-effect of being inbred?

This was my first time working on a Jeep. I doubt you would’ve gotten as far as I did without any help. Anyways, hope you burn in hell.
