Can I run 33 inch tires on my TJ?

The 4cyl/auto is the worst combo you can have due to the poor gear ratios in the auto. Either the 5spd, and even better the 6spd, are significantly better. Don't buy a 2.5/2.4 if the plan is 35's with a bunch of armor and gear. And honestly, while better, the 4.0 ain't no powerhouse. That pig needs to be re-geared just like anything else.

I say go for a 33x10.50 and run the appropriate bumpstops. This was mine with 2” spacers

It just depends on what you are wanting to do with your Jeep. What are you trying to accomplish? Looks? Trails? Snow? Beach? Rocks? Overlanding?
Looks of course they are important. Yes we have trails all over the South East. We do get some snow in Alabama. I am only a couple hours away from the Atlantic and a couple hours away from the Gulf so that is a yes. I will probably stay away from big rock crawling. I would be traveling and camping so that is a yes. Basically everything except big rocks.

It may come down to looks for you.

I think 32’s look about perfect proportionally on a TJ. A 2.5-3” lift will accommodate 32’s. You could handle anything you’ll be doing with this build. With an I-6 and the 6-speed and 3.73 gears you probably could avoid regearing.

The question on 2” SL + 1” BL or 3” SL is harder to answer. Either way will work. The easy way, and what I would do because it sets you up to do a TT later, is 2” SL + 1” BL.

If you took Ranger101's Jeep and painted it the body Stone White, same wheels and hard top, that would be me. I suppose I should have include better information. '98 Sport, 3-Speed Automatic 32RH Transmission, Dana 30/186MM Front Axle, 3.73 Rear Axle Ratio, Heavy Duty Dana 44 Rear Axle, Trac-Lok Differential Rear Axle, Command-Trac Part Time 4WD System, and 30" Wheel and Tire group. This was all the standard and optional equipment from the factory. Which is amazing it was really easy to find.

If you want to go to 35’s you need 5” of lift and more than $10,000 to do it right. 33’s will need 4” and will cost you around $8,000.

Neither of those is necessary to do what you want to do, but you can go for it for sure
