@Dave K. and I are in the process of getting land cleared and a storage / workshop built so we can start our tj builds. There is only a small 1.5 stall one door garage we have been trying to use, but with winter coming, we will be at a stand still with any fixes. We have been working on this for the past month and are at the point of cutting down trees and prepping for excavation. We are hoping to get it built in December. The pics show the yard with 5 trees already cut.

It is going to be 40 by 60, half to store our toys , and half a workshop with car lift, heat, etc. there are so many factors that go into this build.

Any ideas, suggestions, or feedback for must haves, things to think about, etc. is appreciated. We will be spending one if the last nice days in Sept. hauling trees and branches.

These are three giant oaks that dave seems to think will be down by the end of the day. And we are using the yj with the plow to move branches to the property edge . This picture doesn't do these trees justice. I don't want them cut :(

This is where the shed is going to stand which I don't agree with now that I can see the sunset since clearing brush out.

That will be a nice shop when you are done. A lot of work before the snow flys

You've got that right! We got all the big trees down. One big one cleared out. Lots of Moving wood over the next week but got a bunch done this weekend

I agree, that's going to be a nice place for a nice shop. It's really nice that you guys have all that land. How many acres are you on?

I'm guessing that you have cleared enough that with heavy snow or a storm no tree's will fall on your new toy room and you have enough drainage for those wet days too...Other than that it looks like a prime spot well done.
Make sure you have a nice approach to the shed in all weathers too.

Yes, Trees are all cleared. I'll take pics tom. Lots to consider but we are pretty confident in the location. I found a garage forum that has been priceless. Helps us think of things we didn't know we needed to think about. .

A lot of work is right! With us working opposite shifts it's hard to get stuff done. I only gave about 1.5 hours before it gets dark. Lots of wood clearing to do. I'm going to pick up a wood chipper tom. The tallest tree we dropped was 90'feet tall. 10 foot trunk diameter. Now that was a crash! Pretty intense.

And the trees are down. We are finishing hauling logs away this weekend and getting the excavating done next week!

So I just remembered I had started this thread to document the progress on @Dave K. and my Jeeps home and hospital. I have been sharing progress in a different place but will put it here to have it all in one place. Here are some pics to catch up to current day. The plan is a 42x64 three door building. Half for storage , the other half workshop that is finished with 2 post lift, loft (which dave will build in the future), in floor heat, and dave wants a woodstove(I think it’s illegal). We did all the tree removal and contracted out for the excavating and building .

Dave’s homemade log puller. Worked like a dream on the back of the atv to move big logs!

That was a big ass stump! They ended up burying it where the storage building was when they filled in the low area .

We put the yj with the plow to work to move brush. Our foreman approved of the progress being made.

We were nervous with the cooler temps that the cement wouldn’t set well. Old trick , we covered it with plastic and straw to keep it warm. Buddy didn’t let anyone slack during these days.

A couple of the Jeeps are sitting and patiently waiting for them to get done. This is the first time Dave’s tj has touched snow .

So this is where we sit as of Friday. Dave said they were short staffed and had lost one of the workers. Dave said the main manager (not buddy), has high expectations of his workers and doesn’t let anyone slack. Tomarrow Dave and I are going to pick up the lighting for the outside of the building .

Cool! Forgot all about this thread! A new Jeep home is always exciting.
It’s very exciting. And a bit nerve racking. I started this project doing the same thing I have done when I got my tj, learning as much as I can about building a large pole shed. I thought my head was going to explode, especially because Dave didn’t care about half of what I was wanting him to take into consideration. Once I took a step back and let things happen as they were going to happen, I’ve been able to enjoy the progress more.

This is looking better and better @Kathy Shame you had to lose those trees...but it'll be worth it in the end.
I just saw this . Yes it was a shame and didn’t want to cut down any of the trees but open space options were limited . Even two apple trees were chopped :(.

And easier for me to make sure I do what I want to and or need to when Kathy is not stressed. And asking me about things ten steps down the road.
