Yeah, for the little bit I’ve seen, I’d say that Ford would be on a similar level, just smaller package. At least there's no carpet in the Ford.
So what's the consensus on the 700R4? I just remember when it first came out, it was a complete pile of crap - but nowadays it seems to be well regarded.

It grew into the 4L - 60 which isn't the worst trans. A 700R4 can be built into a Okay street Overdrive trans. but it 's not T - 400 tough.
If you just have to have a juice box trans , a 4L - 80 E is strong , but large and needs a controller.

Just an FYI... The TH400 does have a 4 speed non-computer controlled competitor. The 4L60, "that'll withstand up to 700 horsepower..."

I haven't heard off a non-electronic controlled 4L series transmission. Looking around, I keep finding sites claiming 700R and 4L60 (no E) are the same transmission. Do you know anything different?
Good to know - when it comes to autoboxes, there's the Th400, and then there's everything else.
Did you check out the link in my post. It looks as though it's something they put together and sell.
I did. They don't offer a trans with that specific code, which is what sent me looking to see what's out there. I keep finding sites claiming the 700R4 was recoded by GM as the 4L60, then they added the electronic control. I'm interested because I'm looking to swap out a powerglide, but don't want to jump into electronic controls, which limits me to a 200R4 or 700R4 as far as I know.
