Car pics too cool not to share

Its not my normal cuppa either, but there's just something about this series that has stuck with me. Don't normally watch Horror.

I saw it when it first came out. Watched it at the Blue Fox Drive-In on Whidbey Island. Have a copy of it on DVD, now. Cool/strange little flick.

Have you seen the rest of them? There are 5 of them, last one came out in early 2016. Angus Scrimm had a private showing of the 5th one (RaVager) as he was dying just after it was made, yet just before it was officially released.

Cool history lesson in this vid

That's a wild ride with that car. Financial means aside, it's pretty cool that guy had the fortitude to place the car on display vs selling to the highest bidder. I'd say that's pretty rare. Some things truly are not for sale.

It's a little funny in a sad way that none of the family have interest in that car, but it is what it is. One of my dads friends is in a similar situation with his '68 Shelby 350 and his almost finished '65 fastback that his mom bought new. He has one daughter, and she couldn't care less about cars, especially old cars, but he cherishes those cars. I asked him one time if he was going to give her one and he said "she doesn't care about them, she'll just sell 'em". Meanwhile I'm over here holding onto old cars like a lifeline. :sneaky:

The story is pretty crazy, him being 7' tall was surprising. I'd think Leno would have been a good route for it to go. At some point his cars will likely be a museum with a trust that can take care of them.

Haha I literally watched this video about half an hour before getting on here. Wonderful history with that car! VINWIKI does a great job with their stories. Lots of info, and no fluff. Good stuff, that. (y)

They have a lot of cool stories, the car world has some characters in it.

I've only seen the original. I'm not much into sequels, as I've found that they almost always disappoint. Maybe I'll check out the second one, though, and see how I feel about it. ;)

I'm not familiar with the AMC American, but at first glance I thought it was a Lark. Did we have a designer double dippin'? 🤔

The Lark is arguably a better looking car, in my opinion. As for the first two generations of the American, you would never know (if you didn't already know it) that the '61-'63 square-bodies are nothing more than a reskin of the '58-'60 cars. The underpinnings, including the floorboard and cowl, are identical. With American Motors' tight budget, it was the cheapest way to release a more modern version of one of their best sellers. And btw, the '58-'60 Rambler American was actually an updated re-release of the '54-'55 Nash/Hudson "Rambler". Confused yet? :ROFLMAO:

1954 Nash Rambler

There used to be a Nash of that vintage sitting in a ditch nearby, all surface rust with no windows or interior. It was located down a gravel road outside a cow pasture. I tried to find a pic, but google street view doesn't go back far enough here to see it. I have no idea how long it sat there, but it disappeared when the state paved the road around '07. Right under this cluster of trees. Interesting cars.

The 2nd one is a bit controversial in the Phantasm Phan community as it was the only one that had a major studio backing it and they forced a casting change that nobody wanted. With that said, its still a pretty good movie - all 5 of them are. Just don't expect complete consistency between them - its Phantasm after all, was it real or not? All but the 2nd were made on a shoestring budget, and a rotten skinny shoestring at that!
