I remember being pissed when prices hit $1 a gallon. If I saw that now, I'd celebrate.
That reminded me of a local "gas station war" back around '08 when a gallon was in the $3 range. Two competing stations (located across a 5 lane road from each other) got locked in on running the other out of business. Over about a month, they both kept lowering their daytime fuel price trying to one-up each other until they hit the $1 mark. You should have seen the lines. They pretty much shutdown a main thoroughfare of a busy city. The cops had to post up directing traffic and stopping fights until the powers that be put a stop to it all. I remember seeing people on the local new saying how they'd been sitting in line for hours and how many people were getting into fights. In the end both stations survived, so nothing gained.
