The only thing worse than the low performance , was the tape stripe graphics to convince you the car was badass , like this 140 h.p. wonder Pinto .

All it needs is a hotrodders touch...;) I know there's no love for the Mustang II, but I can't help but see the potential in 'em. And I've never had a problem with their looks. Should they have labeled as anything other than a Mustang? Probably, but it is what it is. As for "sticker" performance, I wholeheartedly agree. The '75 Corvette should have had stickers...LOTS of damn stickers! :sneaky:

I've always liked the looks of the Mustang II, beats a Fox body for sure in that dept. In performance, not so much... ;)

I was going to comment on your opinion of the Mustang II, but honestly, I couldn't remember if you were alright with them, or you hated 'em. I was actually thinking you hated 'em, so I'm glad I didn't say anything. ;)

On that note. Heres an example of real performance at the time...

In 1982 Gm dropped the new 2.8 V6 used in F bodies and S10's, into the Chevette. The result was solid 15 second quarter mile times and performance eclipsing the Z28, Trans Am and Buick Turbo Regals at the time! Gm refused to spend money on the platform unfortunately as it was heading towards extinction.

Even in stock configuration the 2 door hatches were pretty chuckable cars, provided they had a manual gearbox and the larger I4. Sold as the Vauxhall Chevette in the UK, some saw action in road and rally racing. The talented boys at Retropower have massaged two in recent years...

I watched this video last night, and it brought back memories. A guy I used to run around with had an Evo 8 with a little tweaking (AWD around 500 whp), and that was the fastest accelerating car I've been in, but she'd hit the wall right after 140. The '03 Cobra I was driving back then was just diggin' into 5th gear at that speed. He could get away, but I could chase him down. :sneaky:
