I owned a '58 Ford like this one (albeit it in grey primer) that had a 462 Lincoln motor with a Holley 750 double-pumper, and 3.91 gears in the 9" rear end. That thing would do a smoke show for as long as I wanted. Not very practical, but a helluva a lot of fun. I sold it to a buddy, who then sold it to someone else. That individual used the car as a getaway vehicle in a local armed robbery. He was eventually caught, and I lost track of the car after that. This was in the mid-to-late '80s.

There was a time when tube bumpers were the IN thing but that was 20 years ago.

I remember the tube bumper thing being a 1980's thing.
Every 4 ft lift " Show Truck " had them , with 37 booted chrome plated shocks , 1 3/4 " wheel travel , and 12" wide wheels. Oh and at least half of them didn't have a front drive shaft.

I do seem to forget it's 2023 already... OK 30-40 years ago.

I had a 1984 Toyota pu and wanted a 8-10" lift and 40"+ tires. I didn't know much then. It was only my second 4x4 and I'd only been on some easier trails that I only needed 31" tires for.

But yes I remember everyone being into tube bumpers. I would have been but I wanted a winch bumper. Came down on orders to go back to Germany so had to sell the truck.

The Dodge Sweptside was created by mating a 1957 Dodge 2-door wagon rear quarters to a Uniline pickup box, creating possibly the most radical example of Exner's "forward look"
