Carpet replacement ideas

I’ve had my Jeep for 13 years now and I’ve been running without carpet and seat in the rear for most of those. My old place I lived I had to park outside and my hardtop leaked and the carpet in the cargo area stunk. So I tossed it but kept the front carpet. I put a stall mat I got at tractor supply cut to fit in the cargo area.

Anyway, now that I park in a garage and no longer offroad it, I am wanting to put carpet back in to help with insulation and noise.

Should I go with Bedrug (my jeep is a Sahara so not sure on charcoal color). Or I saw some cheaper stock carpet on eBay in tan I could get and clean.

1. Can I put some type of sound deadener under the stock carpet if I go that route or not necessary?

2. Can I use bedrug without using the Velcro to attach it? I didn’t know if it would shift, etc.

3. Which route should I go? Other alternatives to the above mentioned?

Thank you 🤘🏼

ACC offers carpet. I have BedRug.

Many people have done some kind of sound deadening. I was always reticent to put something adhesive down if moisture got in the Jeep.

WeatherTech Floor Liners on top of BedRug was the answer for me.

Thanks! I saw some good and bad about ACC but maybe those issues were a one off. I also didn’t know how the charcoal would like the tan interior but I saw one picture on here and it looked good. Someone close to me is selling bedrug for $300 so I might go that route.

If it’s used you might have to get some new adhesive Velcro, at least for the tub side, to use that feature. Easy enough.

They said it was new, never installed it and they have the install kit. But I was hoping not to have to use the Velcro. Someone else mentioned they didn’t but I didn’t know how well it would work without doing so. Obviously would have to use it for the tailgate but meaning everywhere else.

I can get the bed rug for $250 for front and back or around $90 for the factory carpet. Tough decisions 😆

Definitely the BedRug. It’s way better IMHO. I also would use the Velcro strips to hold it in place. I wouldn’t want it sliding around when I got in

Better than what? It certainly is not better than most any real carpet for what is being asked about. It is better than a scuffed bare floor for appearance sake, but that's it.

I like it better than my old OEM. It works for me, looks new after two years, has good fitment in all places except right beside the seats and at the b pillar, and is easy to clean. YMMV

It was overpriced IMO.

What would you recommend? I saw your post about ACC but that was also an option I considered.

I don't have a recommendation. While you may surmise that our ACC fiasco was a one-off, at the same time we were struggling to make that install acceptable, there was a full kit of their top of the line offering in another rig 10 feet away. It has similar issues, it does not fit the way a very expensive kit should.

I am not fond of the ZERO customer support if you buy it on Rock Auto, I'm less fond of the premium you pay additionally to get support by purchasing it directly from ACC. If you buy it on RA, ACC does not even know you exist and will do everything in their power to keep it that way.

That doesn't make it better than anything which was your assertion, you just like it better based on comparing a NEW poorly fitting no sound mitigating product that slides around and needs Velcro to hold it in place to something old and worn out.

I've installed lots of the Bedrug product for folks. Not once ever have I been impressed with any aspect of it. It is thin, fits poorly, and requires too much work to install for something that should be drop in perfect for the price. There is only one thing it does reasonably well and that is look nice if you squint and don't pay any attention to the poor fit.

I did not assert BedRug is better than “anything.” My post #10 is to her post #8 which is a comparison with “factory carpet.”

I don’t know anything first hand about any other carpet than factory, but I have three Jeeps and all came with factory carpet and the BedRug is better at this point in these TJ’s lives. The backing has decayed and the carpet is falling apart on two of them. Mine was just yuck and I couldn’t get it cleaned sufficiently.

My BedRug doesn’t move unless I remove it from the Jeep.

I used the Bedrug in my LJ. The biggest negatives I have found with it are it has zero heat or sound insulation. On my 06 driving without floor insulation cooked my right leg and I ended up having to add a layer of insulation. Since this is a concern for the OP I wouldn't recommend the product to them. When I was choosing a carpet my deciding factor was weight. Bedrug saved me around 30lbs vs the mass backed ACC.
