WOO! Had the Jeep 5 days and already a CEL. Luckily this page is awesome and I think I sorted it out through older threads but I want to get some outside input on my current situation.
First the back ground! I got my car washed about 2 days ago and the genius car wash workers decided to wash the inside of my Jeep with soap and water by just slapping it on the dash with a rag. Then a CEL light came on the later that day. The Jeep still rode fine yesterday despite the CEL but today there was a fluttering and sluggish feeling when I accelerated. Once I got up to speed it would go away. It isn't constant. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. I didn't get to see what the code was until today when I got a code reader... since I didn't realize I could check the readings by turning the key three times on and off. But the code came up on the reader as a P0123. I did the due diligence and checked the TPS and everything was as normal as it could be within reason, at idle the Jeep stayed at about 650 RPM, and the connections seemed fine. When I also tried getting the codes through the Jeep's system I got a P0123 and P1596. This helped narrow it down for me as it pointed to issues with the Airbag Clock Spring that has been talked about before in these forums. People have talked about the Clock Spring causing a CEL when it has gotten wet before and since it came on after the car wash the evidence lines up.
So in conclusion I think I need to either pull off the Clock Spring and clean/dry it and see if it works or just replace it altogether and that should get rid of the problem. Would you guys agree with this conclusion?
