What’s up guys, new member here. I changed my heater core and now I have a no start issue, car does not crank.

2005 LJ unlimited

I’ve ruled out the ign switch,
neutral safety switch
Starter

my symptoms are, turn the key to the start position, cluster turns off, interior lights turn on no crank no start

now the wired part is the defrost switch does the same thing, key in run pos, yellow lights on, I push defrost switch and cluster turns off, interior lights turn on and I get a click from the ASD relay.

the fuel pump does not turn on with the key in the run position.

The radio also will not turn on

if anyone can suggest where I should look please let me know, or if you know which connector controls all 4 of my symptoms.

I feel like the issue is wherever the defrost and the ignition wires cross but I can’t locate where that is or where to start looking.

I did mine few month ago, cant think of anything other than few ground loops i noted to myself not to forget. Everything was pretty much a plug and play, nothing that made me think "does this go here or there?". Clockspring is another thing to be mindful when taking steering column out.

If that is where your feelings guide you, we have factory manual here to help you https://wranglertjforum.com/threads...ice-manuals-fsm-technical-documentation.4618/

I can’t find it in the manual would you happen to know where all the grounds under the dash are ?

My 2006 fsm has relevant pictures in section 8W-91-30
ground spots are marked with G### (like G300)

If it looks like you did not touch it, then you probably did not. I have a bunch of extra wires running there, so mine was different.
Recheck the connectors, just in case they are not fully seated/locked or some pin bent.

Take a seat, sip on your relaxing drink and come to peace with a thought that you may have to take the dash off again, and retrace your steps.

side question : did your Jeep come with that firewall insulator?
We have a thread on here where we debate on how to insulate that section from heat transfer.

Not going to lie, already took it off 2 times and found nothing 😭 this Jeep has me loosing my mind, printed a bunch of pages from the FSM, I feel like the connectors are fully seated but not sure.

Somehow the defrost switch/ circuit is interfering with the starter circuit

The most difficult answer is always the simplest solution.

There are so many things you could have forgotten, but chances are it’s something very simple.

That’s what I’m thinking, it’s something simple. I’ve checked and rechecked. Wondering if I need to take a break from it, only thing is my classic Porsche is sitting outside in the 110 degree heat every day this thing is in my garage lol, since Saturday

Trust me, take a break.

I've found the only time I can think with a clear head is when I hydrate, eat, and sleep on it. When I attack it again the next day with a fresh mind, then I usually end up figuring it out, and it always ends up being something simple as hell.

I feel you on the heat too. Here in Arizona my garage is 115 almost every day :ROFLMAO:

Makes it REALLY hard to think with a clear mind.

I'm not sure if it lines up with your symptoms, but could it be your clutch pedal safety switch?

I haven't done it, but I think there's a way to bypass it if you want to rule it out for certain.

I looked through your WDs for a few minutes based on your description, looks like C300 is a common player. Left kick panel area it looks like, below are screenshots from your manual.

I'm on the same page with everyone, you probably either missed something or maybe some pins got mashed. In the hundreds of dashboards I've taken out I've forgotten a plug more than a few times. Sometimes the pigtails get caught up in the dash during the install & they don't hang where they normally would & are easy to miss. Plus checking connectors under the dash totally sucks. If it gets to it you might want to thumb through all the illustrations in your manual starting on 8W-91-11 & account for each connector and ground in the interior. Buy a friend some beer & make it a party.

i looked at c300, visually it looked okay, looks like the only thing not plugged in is the headlamp leveling switch but this tj does not have that. ill look at the manual again at the connectors. but as of now im still having the same issue. im lost as where to start troubleshooting.
