I have a ‘97 Wrangler and just today the check engine light came on. I did the key trick and the odometer shows code code 12 (Direct battery input to PCM was disconnected within the last 50 Key-on cycles.), code 21 ( O2 Sensor Error), and code 55 (Completion of fault code display on Check Engine lamp), and then the check engine light flashes 5 times. What does the flashing check engine light mean? I’ve heard it’s a cylinder misfire but the engine runs fine and I don’t hear any knocks. Is the flashing just signaling the error codes are done reading or is it something else? I can’t find anything about this so I’d appreciate your guys help.

The flashing light is also giving the trouble code by its number of flashes. It probably gave 5 flashes at first, paused, then give 5 more flashes which indicates a 55 code which means no more codes follow. It should have previously given 2 flashes then 1 more earlier which indicated your 21 code.

The check engine light has gone away. Don’t know how that happened but I’ll take it. However what would happen is I would turn the key three times, only the odometer would flash the error codes and then the check engine light would flash after the codes.
