Check engine light & high idle after hosing down engine

I gave the tjs engine a hose down and a simple green treatment and sprayed the undercarriage with a sprinkler.

When I started her up her rpms spiked(I'm to 3k then slowly dropped to 1.2) and the cel came on. I disconnected the battery and tried again. The engine did the same thing (No cel initially, then it came on) then the idle settled, but the cel is still on.

Btw I covered the alternator, battery, and the plugs behind the battery with plastic bags when washing it.

Try unplugging your o2 sensors pig tails to see if you got water in the plugs. Heard of this happening before

Yep, this is common when hosing down the engine. Let it completely dry out, reset the check engine light (or unplug the battery and let it sit unplugged for 10 minutes), then see what happens. It should go away on it's own.

Sounds like you got water in one or more sensor connectors. If you have a code scanner hook it up, or go to orielly's or AutoZone and they'll scan codes for you. This can tell you which sensor (s) got wet.

You can also unhook the battery for 5-10 minutes or so to reset the computer.

So I got home(after leaving the Jeep to dry for about an hour) and did the key trick, codes came back were: 0123, 0121. Looks like I got the tips wet.

Everytime I disconnect the battery to reset the computer, The cel is off, but the idle shoots up, then the CEL comes back on, and it settles to the normal idle rpms...guessing I may need to replace the tps.

Started my jeep this morning, still showing the p0123 code, and now the rpms are spiking all over the place. I'm guessing I fried my tps sensor. I guess I'll replace it and go from there.

Update: It was the tps sensor...guess I used a little too much water. Bought a new Napa brand one to confirm, I'll probably order a mopar brand one to make sure it doesn't fail again.

Good call! Lesson learned though. Sometimes hosing the engine down can damage sensors. Usually they dry out and it's okay, but in your case, it sounds like you may have shorted it out.
