Our chickens regular come to the front door and we'll hear them pecking on the glass. They do this because my wife started feeding them treats from the front door.

Every time I hear the pecking on the front door glass now, I yell out, "chicken delivery!".

It's rather amusing.

Ahh, I didn’t realize that. Same smell indeed!

My sister raises chickens and turkeys. She has a chicken and two turkeys that were injured when they were young, and they now live in her house (mobile home) with her. Well, those and her twelve pet snakes. Says every room 'cept the bathroom houses Boas and Pythons...

My sister is weird. ;)

They just poop everywhere throughout the house? Damn…

Papers on the floor when they're out, and designated cages for when she leaves the house. Really large freakin' cages. I know it isn't going to sound even possible, but my sister keeps a very tidy home...'cept for the livestock running 'round. Like I said, weird. Very weird. She's spent far too much money in vet bills on poultry that really should have ended up on the dinner table, in my opinion.

I mean I like the chickens at all, but not enough to pay vet bills for them. A new one costs $4 at Tractor Supply.

I think she spent something like $1,100 on one of the turkeys. She names them, they nap on the couch with her, etc.

Did I mention how weird my sister is? :ROFLMAO:

I think that goes without saying.

I’ll bet it isn’t too often the veterinarian finds themselves treating poultry 🤣

The wife has chickens, they regularly are hanging out at the back patio sliding door. What’s scary is when I look up and see a quarter horse big eyes staring at me 😳! He comes right up the sliding glass door and just stands there looking in.

I hear you. My wife feeds all the animals so they all get way too close.

I was wondering about that. My mom was considering taking her rooster in because he's the first rooster she's had that didn't grow up to be a complete asshole.

I'm not even sure how to find a vet that treats poultry. He hadn't been crowing and actually had a cough. Google suggests bronchitis. Don't know the prognosis or how he's doing, this was about 10 days ago.

She went to two vets that recommended putting the bird down, but she refused. Ended up taking it to an "exotic pets" vet who dealt with it. She was basically looking for the diagnoses and recommendations on treatment. She now does most of the stuff herself, including draining stuff that's not supposed to be there with a needle and syringe. She's actually quite self-sufficient, for the most part. Hunting and fishing annually. Owns a couple dozen firearms. Into archery, too. Rides motorcycles, both street and dirt (I think she owns three now, but I'm not certain). All this, and she's almost 61 years old. She's quite a character. Definitely not a "people person".

Hope she can find someone, if necessary. People take a shine to different animals for various reasons. As for your mom's rooster, I guess you just can't put a price on sentiment.

Our rooster is a gigantic asshole. Anytime I go to collect eggs he attacks me. I now bring a long stick with me and I never turn my back on him. Anytime he comes at me I knock him out of left field. Amazing how it never seems to phase him.

I am just not really the animal person. I know I don’t want to spend the time to take care of them as I have other priorities I want to spend time on. Plus guess I’m lazy some days, the Jeep will wait if don’t feed her 😂😂. I have to hand it to her taking care of the horse and pony, twice a day feeding, picking up horse manure etc.

We had one Rooster when I was younger. After it attacked several kids, we had chicken dinner.

It was easy to buy chickens every spring. We had 200 we butchered and 20-30 laying hens.

The only thing that got close to the house was a couple cats and the dog when the weather was nice. Otherwise he slept in a doghouse by the back door.
