Clock Spring Replacement

Don't know if anyone is interested, but at this point, I saved my broken clock spring. It seems to have come unsoldered at the connection to the plug fitting. A mounting tab broke during removal so housing might not be useable, but the spring seems to be completely in tact. If anyone could use let me know. I bought a new one, but they are seeming to be harder and harder to come by. Mine is an 01 Sport with no cruise. I'll likely just throw in the tub with other parts I've replaced but still useable.

Pics of the break location?

Meant to post pic, got phone call and distracted. There is a little foam piece in upper right corner, that is where that ribbon was soldered to the plug. That is where the end should be. I'm not sure what those gray pieces are, best I could tell, just to help the ribbon slide inside the case more smoothly. They are fairly worn and came out, but I kept it all. I know others have soldered these together mid ribbon with some luck, so figured maybe hang onto. Just not sure I want to keep long term.

Give it a shot, but it's a guarantee it's never going to last as long as OEM. Have you taken apart the old to see if it's repairable?

No... I haven't pulled the wheel to look at the original. It's been in there for 27 years so I figure it's best to just go ahead and replace it. I just bought the Jeep two days ago, so don't know how long it's been broken. I went ahead and got the cheap Chinese one. Figured for a third the cost of the Dorman, it's worth a shot - especially given that it's a pretty easy job to replace it. If it only lasts a few years (or less), maybe I'll buy a better one, but heck, the Dorman part is probably made in China too... possibly at the same factory. Hopefully it holds up... we shall see.

I used one of these some years ago. It wasn't long until it failed, and I went with the Mopar unit afterwards. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Lovely. How long would you estimate it lasted mileage-wise?

My TJ is just an occasional-use toy... not my daily driver... so I'm hoping it'll last a couple of years at least, If not, no major loss.

Mine is my daily. I suspect it was less than 2k miles.
