Hi there... We sold our 1993 Jeep Wrangler a year ago and we kicked ourselves. We just bought a 1997 Wrangler and we knew when we bought it the service engine light was on Code 11 No ignition reference signal detected during cranking or timing belt skipped one or more teeth, or intermittent loss of either camshaft or crankshaft position sensor. The gentlemen we bought it from said he replaced both sensors . They did put a new motor in it last year as well. Any ideas what we should check ? Just curious if anyone else has had this issue. If we didn't love the Jeep, we wouldn't have bought it knowing the service engine light was on displaying this code. Thanks in advance

The previous owner might have installed cheap store-brand crankshaft and camshaft position sensors, they have an abysmal reputation. No guarantees but maybe one of them just went bad. Check their connections too, reseat (unplug/reconnect) them. Where sensors are concerned, it pays to install Mopar.

And when it comes time to replace its O2 sensors, be sure to only use NGK or NTK which were the OE O2 sensors. Avoid Bosch O2 sensors which don't work properly in our Jeeps.

I agree with everything that Jerry said, it's spot on.

While it sounds silly, a good majority of the time, when people replace the sensors with cheap replacement sensors from Autozone, Advanced Auto, and other local auto part stores, they cause all sorts of issues and don't actually end up solving the problem. Our Jeeps are very finicky, and it would seem that more often than not, they favor OE Mopar sensors.

So, I might check that out and see if those replacement sensors are indeed Mopar parts (they would have Chrysler logos stamped on them somewhere most likely.
