Plenty of serching and reading has got me a bit perplexed on this one as I cant find the answer yet. So here we go, kicking the aquatic ant hill - can your cooling system over cool the 4.0l ?
Short backstory - like many i picked up my first Jeep (02, 4.0l, with 2 speed), and am now an hooked, want it to last forever I read a bunch about how overheating kills them and after seeing a few times saw a needle width or two over 210 in traffic in Houston ith AC on, i decide to tinker and refresh the cooling system.
Stumble upon Flowkooler, and figure why not more cooling has to be better right? Flush coolant system well, Slap it flowkooler waterpump with a new thermostat, new rad hoses, and viola - Jeep runs cool for a day and boom radiator tank cracks. It was original, so i slap in a parts store "murray" replacement rad. Bleed system again, and boy does it run cooler on the dummy gauge... Plug in my OBD2 reader and drive around some, and glance at the app everyonce in a while the thing hits 195 ish but not more yet...I know its designed to run in that range but on the highway it dips lower like low 180s before the therostat opens again.
How cool is too cool of an operating temp? Im wondering if in my penchant for "more is better" did "too much of a good thing"? If the computer is looking for 200 degrees or 210 even - Am i overthinking it all too much or should i go back to a normal pump?
