Cranks but doesn’t start

Thanks for the responses. Sorry for not being clear. It does crank but does not start still. Same issue as at the original problem.

Update. I think I’ve found the problem. I took more of the intake off and my neighbor and I tried the starter fluid again, no change in result. It cranked but did not start.

I have a contact at my local autozone with a TJ and between us 3 We agreed that because there weren’t any check engine lights we’d suspect it’s the ignition coil.

Replaced it myself - no change. But I did discover that there was some corrosion on the old coil and the wire from the ignition coil to the cap doesn’t sit right on the new coil it felt loose. It too is corroded on the inside. I’m getting a replacement set of spark plug wires in the morning and am confident I’ll be back on the road. Wish me luck. Thanks for all he support.

Well unfortunately the Jeep is still not starting. I got a new set of spark plug wires and replaced the one from the cap to the ignition coil and it still won’t start after cranking.

Might be time to let a professional take a look. May be cheaper in the long run opposed to just throwing new parts at it.

Hi, new to the TJ forum here!

Chris32win, did you figure out the no start issue? My TJ is sitting in the yard doing the same thing.

Thanks

Bummer! Yes my Jeep is running great these days. I had this problem like twice. I’m this case, I unplugged my crankshaft position sensor and plugged it back in and it fired up. So I replaced it. Started having similar issues a bit later on and it was traced down to the throttle body in my case. My father in law and I found out when I started cranking and the throttle body wasn’t opening. By manually engaging the throttle under the hood it would start. Looking at the throttle body it wasn’t clearly dirty but we took it off and looked in from the bottom and it was super dirty. This was keeping it from opening to let oxygen in. After a small adjustment and a good cleaning it has worked flawlessly since.

Thanks for the reply. I'll make sure to give the throttle body a through cleaning for good measure.

Did u try the oil pressure senser goes bad it shuts the fuel and fire
down I got a jeep Wrangler sport driving me crazy I pulled the engine had a rod knocking and I put every thing new in the motor rebuilt timed it for to dot new distributer and it gets to start hits but won't start. Got fuel fire and like I say it gets to start but won't and I've tryed every thing and can't get it to start

Let me know how it turns out

Did you ever get it started a friend of mine has one doing the same thing and we have tried everything. Thanks

Please start a new thread - this original posting was in 2018 - there may be a totally different set of related tidbits and questions to ask.
People are willing to help, but tagging on to an old post like this with a possibly different year model and engine can change the complexion of what could be wrong.

Did you find out this problem? I’m having the same problems. Crank won’t start, headlight issue
If you're saying your headlights dim or shut off while the ignition is in the Start position and the starter motor isn't cranking your engine, that means you either have a dead battery or a bad/loose/corroded connection at the battery.
