Cummins R2.8 swap Alaska build

i must have done something odd. i didn’t need to clearance the tub at all.

The 97 firewall tends to be a bit different than other TJs too. I massaged mine as well, but I don't remember exactly why. It may have just been for some easier access or just ignorance. I thought the EGR valve was a bit close to the firewall. Also I may have put my motor mounts slightly forward, which actually moved the engine angle a bit.

So egr side of the motor was zero clearance issues. It's all drivers side for me. This upcoming Saturday I'll get some better looks for sure!

Also with the quick draw adapter I think the trans will have to set about 2 inches forward no matter what I do. I'm alright with that, just have to cut the tub a little and modify the center console.

Motor is on its mounts! New tab for the steering is also in. Need to fab up a transmission plate. Here are some photos for your viewing pleasure!

While you have the space. Might want to drill some holes if you plan on mounting a skid plate to the motor mounts.

I ordered the savvy skid and CADed some new mounts

It never crossed my mind for an engine skid plate... The ol 2.5 engine did sit a lot higher! I need to take a look, appreciate the insight!

First thing Fred Williams did in Tube sock was break the oil pan

Ill look through some threads for some ideas!!! Again, thank you! i keep forgetting its a plastic oil pan. Hopefully the block heater is enough for the cold Alaska starts, since i don't think i can put a pan heater on the plastic.

Came here to say the same thing!

@Jake kozlowski great progress, it's looking fantastic!

Thank you! I feel like getting the motor mounts was a pretty big accomplishment! First motor swap so everything is new for me. I have great help from my buddy Mark. Not sure if he's on the forum but he has a red TJ with the R2.8.

Block heater should be ok unless you are spending time in Squarebanks. I would look into doing a circulating heater.

Alaskan starts, pfft you're a southerner if you only stay in Anchorage.

I've got a picture somewhere that shows the hood thawing out. Memory serves me right it was in single digits not negatives. Just on the block heater.

On the -25 and lower I would put a space heater in the engine bay and cover with a blanket.

Anchorage doesnt get that cold.

You can put a heater on the pan since it is a polymer. In "squarebanks" 😂 they sold all the different wattages. You just have tonuse the larger pad with the lower wattage.
