The 97 firewall tends to be a bit different than other TJs too. I massaged mine as well, but I don't remember exactly why. It may have just been for some easier access or just ignorance. I thought the EGR valve was a bit close to the firewall. Also I may have put my motor mounts slightly forward, which actually moved the engine angle a bit.
While you have the space. Might want to drill some holes if you plan on mounting a skid plate to the motor mounts.

Ill look through some threads for some ideas!!! Again, thank you! i keep forgetting its a plastic oil pan. Hopefully the block heater is enough for the cold Alaska starts, since i don't think i can put a pan heater on the plastic.
Block heater should be ok unless you are spending time in Squarebanks. I would look into doing a circulating heater.
Nah, just Anchorage. I'll stick to that. 15W40 is a thick oil!
They make a 5W40 for winter use as well.
The Cummins manual has the same thing. Government computer wont let me copy and paste it... Ill see if this snip works.
