Daily Driver, Go Where I Want To Build

The goal here is to build a spreadsheet that will allow me to know what to buy for the meth injection in an emergency at the gas station. I'll work out the proportions in the big graduated cylinder after I clean it.

In the meantime, for normal mixing I will use distilled water from the grocery store and methanol fuel from the local race shop. This is the most cost effective way to do it at about $3/gallon after mixing, compared to $13-15/gallon for Boost Juice.

Maybe I wasn't paying attention, is the meth injection part of the supercharger kit or is that something extra?

This is an experiment that I am in the middle of. As part of the continued avalanche of exploding projects this year, I am attempting the fourth revision of the thimble keeper I first built about 7-8 years ago. This version is for my new FluxOR aluminum bumper and I decided I wanted it to be a form fitting hook that won't damage the thimble when others are setting up my winch line.

It also needs to be very compact given the limited real estate on this bumper compared to my current one. I decided I am going to sculpt this thing out of acetal. I do not have a lathe or milling machine.

This is the general profile.

The hook is going to be shaped like the teardrop eye of the thimble. I made a pattern to copy this and attached it to the bottom of a copolymer acetal cylinder.

From there, I built a very crude cradle for my die grinder...

...with a finger shaped like the carbide burr that will trace the teardrop pattern and grind that into the acetal as I rotate the cylinder.

The first pass worked very well. This is the center height to eventually match the thimble height with the fairlead opening.

The next steps are to change the height of the die grinder and also shift the position of the template to sculpt the hook.

Halfway done!

Is there any data on what the ingredients in those various products will do to an o2 sensor? Seems the less colorings, dyes and soap the better?

All I know is the SDS states 30-35% meth and less than 3% ethylene glycol.

On the occasions that I need to use something like Peak or the blue stuff, it would get further mixed with HEET 100% methanol. That dilutes the glycol more, if that matters to begin with.

Are you running an intercooler, JJ?

To be upfront, I also do not know if I need meth injection. I did it out of caution thinking it would at be at least a safety net.

Can you get 93 octane where you are? Fuel will be a big driver as to the need. As I’m sure you know, what you are guarding against is detonation.

Yes and I'm aware. Early on during the first install, there was a violent moment of pre-detonation before I reinstalled the factory fuel injectors.

Haven't screwed it up yet!

The die grinder gets raised and lowered to create the correct width for the thimble.

The template gets shifted to create the hook.

Some rough sanding to begin removing the extra material for the final shape.

And a test fit!
