I am new to owning a TJ Rubicon so forgive my lack of experience/knowledge but am eagerly learning. I need to replace my front axle assembly so I am looking for a replacement if anyone is selling one, let me know. I will get more information from it if needed. I am sure I didn't provide all the information needed.
Thanks in advance.

4.10
Dana 44

Why do you need to replace the front axle? What are you wanting to spend? Are you looking for a Rubicon Dana 44 axle complete or just a housing?

I bought my TJ from an insurance auction and the front axle is damaged and needs to be replaced. Looking for a complete assembly ideally. Not sure really what my budget is for this but nothing over $3500. I won't be rock crawling or anything extreme like that with it. At this present moment that is.

That is about what one from G2 costs. http://g2axle.com/pages/view/dana44_front_assemblies

Or East Coast Gear Supply: https://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-2...ion-tj-xj-zj-front-bolt-in-axle-assembly.html

And there is a web site called Car-Part.com you can search to see if a junkyard has one also. http://car-part.com/

G2 axles can be bought thru different vendors so you can get them on sale sometimes.
Then there are companies like Dynatrac https://www.dynatrac.com/ Currie https://www.currieenterprises.com/off-road-products or Tera Flex https://teraflex.com/ that all build aftermarket custom axles.

Is the locker still good in your front axle? That would save you some money if you could reuse it. Also the brakes and axle shafts? These parts if reusable will save money.

Not sure on the locker - still looking into it and I think the axle shafts are still good. Brakes are good. I've been searching car-part.com and found some on there but figured I'd reach out on here and see if anyone has one they are wanting to sell.
Thanks for the info.

Watch the For Sale section as you might find one there. You can get the G2 axle housing off Ebay for about $1,900.
You can reuse your locker and other parts if they are good. The only thing different would be that you would need new gear because your axle is a low pinion and the G2 is a high pinion. If I remember correctly the G2 axle can use a Rubicon locker but you would want to check to make sure if you went that route. If you can't setup an axle it costs about $200-500 depending on the shop to setup gears. If you can do the rest of the work it again would save money.

Yes there is always the chance someone will have one they want to get rid of.
Congrats on the new rig and welcome.

Nothings no says you can’t put a regular tj axle under there if you regear it

Check out http://car-part.com

Be prepared to spend at least $1500. Rubicon axles aren't cheap, that's for sure!

Personally I think you'd be better off buying an empty housing, then building your own axle with ring and pinions, axle shafts, a locker, etc.

If you were not so far away you have a rubicon Dana 44 with Eaton E-locker, 5.13 gears, chromoly shafts, and Artec truss sitting in my shed.

@Chris - are there sites out there that sell empty housings? I thought of doing that, searched for them but maybe not in the right spots?? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Not that I'm aware of. Davey's Jeep might occasionally have something like this, as would the one I linked to above. However, most of them want to sell the axle as a whole, as it's worth far more money that way. Without the internals, it's basically just a Dana 30 housing with a bigger differential housing.

I was trying to find a bare rear Dana 44 housing and every website I went to all said they are on backorder with no fill date so I think Mopar has stop making them. The only thing you might find is a used one and that I think is going to be hard to do which is why I suggested one of the aftermarket companies. A little more spendy but a better axle really.

@KAS8586 I'm in WI too. I have a Dana 30 with 3.73 gears for sale. As long as the gears match your rear, it'd be a cheap way to get rolling again. I'll sell it to you cheaper than most housings cost. Let me know if you are interested and I'll let you know the details.

Does the Dana 30 have enough room for the 4.10 gears and be able to fit the air lock components (hopefully I have the terms correct)? From what I have read, the Dana 30 and Dana 44 are the same but housing size is different?
Right now it seems my plan is to buy an aftermarket Dana 44 empty housing and put all my components in unless I can luckily find something that will work.

Dana 30 can fit 5.13s, thats as deep as you can go.

I didnt see it mentioned but what exactly is damaged on the current housing? If its as simple as a bent or broken control arm mount simply burn a new on. Or if its a R&P issue get it rebuilt.

X2. What exactly is damaged or not working? Certain "problems" with a Rubicon axle can be a 10 cent fix.

And if the axle really does need to be replaced, then a Rubicon 44 isn't necessarily a requirement.

@jjvw The axle tube has a decent bend to it. It was a pain the in butt trying to get the axle shaft out of it. The TJ was hit pretty hard in the right front so it bent the "C" knuckle as well. Ended up finding a Dana 44 with 69k miles on it and going to look at it tomorrow and the price is right too.

Awesome let's hope it is in good shape and works for you.

Well I am back in the position of not having a front axle again. The one I went and bought ended up having a bent inner C so my dad and I are figuring out what to do next. one question I have is are the inner C's of the Dana 30 the same as the inner C's on a Dana 44?
We are leaning toward having the front axle re-tubed but I need to find a passenger side inner C and that is proving to be the difficult part. If the inner C of a Dana 30 is the same as a Dana 44 there are plenty of cheap Dana 30 axles that I may be able to get an inner C from.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
