DEATH WOBBLE!

I had the dreaded DW on the Jeep when I had it on loan from my dad a few years back. That scared the jeepers (no pun intended) outta me the first time as I'd never even heard of it!

The first shop I took it to said it was the u-joints, and fixing would be about $2K!

Went to a second shop and he asked point blank - how old are the tires? I said they were the originals, and a new set of 225/75/R15's were put on to test it for DW on a 30 minute drive across local roads, highway, and even some dirt trails. No more DW, so he said it was likely just old tires. I put a new set on (the ones he placed there for the test) and haven't had anything since.
 
I'm gonna x3 that but also add Alloy USA ball joints to it. They are similar, if not the same as Synergy, and are horrible. I went through two sets of them on my xj VERY quickly. They also enlarge the axle C holes which requires you to modify the spicer ball joints in order get em to fit again.
