LoL yes I am reading into it!Looks awesome! Nothing wrong with a good SE after some gearing!
Don’t worry it’s posing for the pictures. “Badass” is the message. It’s smiling underneathWhy is it so angry? You just bought it!
You really can't imagine how much different it makes the 4 cylinders. It's like a whole new machine. What size tire are you running?LoL yes I am reading into it!
33s. The car has the 44 rear axel. I was thinking 4.56 r&p, but need to work on those calculators you guys have posted. You really can't imagine how much different it makes the 4 cylinders. It's like a whole new machine. What size tire are you running?
No way. 4.88 at a minimum, preferably 5.13. I run 4.88 with 31's and the same eng/trans combo as yours. Works awesome.33s. The car has the 44 rear axel. I was thinking 4.56 r&p, but need to work on those calculators you guys have posted.
Agreed, I ran 4.88s with a 5 speed and 33s and there were times where I had wished I had gone 5.13s so I would say an auto should definitely go 5.13s if you live in hilly areas. If you live in flatland then that could make a difference on gear selection. No way. 4.88 at a minimum, preferably 5.13. I run 4.88 with 31's and the same eng/trans combo as yours. Works awesome.
I loved the 4.88s off road and yes, a 5.13 would have been a little better as I had a manual but I was referring to strictly on road opinions. I really dont think you can go wrong with either to be honest but if you ever thought of jumping up to 35s at any point, you would have the gears in place to do it as best as you can with 5.13s. My friend that does gears for his off road shop always tells customers to take what he recommends as the perfect gears for them right now and go one step lower because A) it's not going to kill you on the highway but might hurt a little bit over the recommended and B) it allows for a change in plans down the road because Jeep people are notorious for plans changing down the road and that set of 33s or 35s or whatever that you said you NEVER would go to, yeah you are eyeing them down and thinking hmm, maybe I should make that changeBased on the calculator I found here I get the below result. To maintain identical to factory ratio I should do 4.56. Going 4.88 will shorten up the gears too much? In a manual tranny how short does first gear get with 4.88?
@balfred did you wish you had a 5.13 while driving on the street as well? Or just off-roading?
Thanks guys
Remember, you are no longer identical to factory. Your Jeep is taller, tires are wider and heavier, so you need more gear to keep up momentum. I have no issues with gearing being too low in any gear and I cruise along the hwy at 70 no problem. And that is on 31's while you have 33's.Based on the calculator I found here I get the below result. To maintain identical to factory ratio I should do 4.56.
