Different dash by year or transmission?

It won't work for 2004. I have a 2004 and it's different.

will it actually not work? or just look different?

I see elements of early and late. For example, in my 99 I had a headlight switch in the dash, which I guess was gone in 2001, but I also had the 3-switch panel and ashtray in the center section, which I guess stuck around through 02 until it was replaced by the 4 switches and the black empty square.

I went back and looked at my dash and the only real difference I see is the center section. Since the body didn't change, I can't see that the dash mounting locations shouldn't be the same. Of course the one the OP posted doesn't have AC.

I didn't even notice the AC. Hopefully he has his own AC panel to move over, but that's an area that we probably don't know whether it's all interchangeable.

@imactj2004 I'd probably hold off on buying one from ebay unless you have reasonable options to return it if it doesn't work. I *think* it would mount to your tub, and I don't think the transmission should make a difference, but if you plan to mix and match any parts (such as the gauge cluster, AC switch panel, glove compartment) with yours I don't know what will and won't fit together.

Here's the center section that I have a picture of handy. I can take a full picture of the dash if needed but you can see the edges and cut outs are different on my 04 Rubicon. Notice the AC as well.

that's more or less what my 06 looks like. Only I think my center bezel is aftermarket because I have a double-DIN radio and the corners aren't as rounded.

my 99 looked like the 01 in the center.

but the headlight and dome light switch was in the dash instead of the multifunction stalk.

Follow up: I’ll be replacing the center section entirely to accomodate a 4-din head unit so my main objective is to get everything else in black. Suppose I can just so that piece by piece?

The Hvac assemblies and body firewall cutouts are different so it's not a direct swap.

are you just trying to do a color change, then? It can be done piece by piece, but sounds like you need to stay within 03-04 to make sure it's all compatible. Even 05-06 seem to look a little different in some areas of the interior, like the corners, colors, and textures aren't exactly the same so even if they fit, they might not look right next to one another.

yeah, just a color change

Did you ever go ahead with this swap? I have a 97 and just bought an entire dash assembly out of an 03 and now after reading this im worried it wont fit. Did you find out anymore info on whether its a direct swap or not? Cheers

Is the transmission variance due to the switch or the cutout for the O/D switch? Was there one year overlap of the new center section + 32RH trans? I assume we're not also talking about the center console/shift bezel thing, because there was a minor change in that as well, beneath the shifter boot.
