I just bought some gear oil for my differentials it’s 75-140 with limited slip additives in it. I don’t have a limited slip I just have stock rubicon axles with air lockers. Is it a okay to put it in the diffs,, is it going to do damage to the air lockers or the differentials? Should I return what I got and get something without the additive in it?

The gear driven Rubicon LSD won't know or care that the gear oil has a friction modifier in it.

I've never seen anyone claim that.

This is what I’m referring to, I know jeeps don’t have arb air lockers but the seals are probably the same.

There seems to be so many opinions on this I’m just not sure where to go lol

That is the first I have ever seen that. Most gear oils these days have friction modifiers. My Rubicon lockers had those oils for at least 150k miles without any issues with seals.

If this were an actual problem, there would be actual widespread reports of it.

Awesome thank you I was just looking for some people that had experience with using the additive. Thank you!

This thread got me thinking as my ARBs have developed a slight leak over the past couple of years so I went to ARBs site and found the following:

MAINTENANCE

Air Lockers have no special requirements for lubricants; however, ARB does not suggest the use of oil that contains limited-slip additives as they can shorten the life of the Air Locker seals. Oil should be chosen based on the climate that you live in and the nature of how you use your vehicle.

After the first 1,500 miles of use, ARB recommends changing the differential oil and cleaning the axle breather. The Air Locker is larger in mass when compared to the factory differential, thus the fluid capacity of the axle will be different. Fill the axle with oil until the level is at the fill plug hole, manually rotate the differential several times, and then fill again until level with the filler plug hole. Overtime, the axle will naturally find its maximum capacity. After 30,000 miles of off-road use or 45,000 miles of highway only use replace the differential fluid.

While this may not mean anything regarding the OPs Rubicon lockers, I thought it was important enough to mention it here since the OPs references mentioned ARBs.
