Do 38s fit with no lift? The question nobody asked

Reminded me of the thread from the other day.

Just the thumbnail made me gag. I actually watched the whole thing to make sure it wasn't a joke.

Where I could see asking if a 33 might fit, who could possibly think this is a reasonable question? When 38s shouldn't even be on stock axles, is there any way in hell they belong on stock suspension?

IF ever want to judge the education level of the current generation, look at their vehicles. N doubt we've all been there, but the current fad of huge wheels, skinny mud tires and half lifted trucks and angry Jeep grills may just be the worst yet.

I have a dilemma. These folks contacted me to donate a brake kit for their build. I tendered a tentative yes and then I went and watched the video. Now I'm struggling a fair bit. My issue is there are so many things wrong with putting 38's on the stock axles that I am really having a hard time supporting the project.

This is one of the few times I'll request some opinions from the good folks on here as to whether or not I would see any benefit in giving away a brake kit which is not an insignificant amount.

The question is will I get positive or negative results from the association? Or put another way, when you watch their videos do you want to purchase any of the stuff they use or do you want to stay away from the stuff they use?

I don't see how you'd have any negative results from the association, quite actually the opposite. If I put 37s on my LJR axles (which Im not) and installed your brake kit, posted it on the forum I can't see how that'd be any different and that happens quite often. This shouldn't be any different. You're not supporting their build plans but rather marketing your product.

Agree with the issue behind your point, but to my post above how is that any different from someone using BMB with 37s on stock Dana 44 axles and posting on the forum? Whether one was "donated" a kit or bought it, the end results are still the same.

The 17" kit is designed to and will lock up 37's and their 38's with ease. If I didn't appear to support that nonsense at some level, the kit wouldn't exist but I know folks will do silly things and need to be safe while doing so.

Can't stop all your customers from making bad decisions. Is there anyway they snap/break/etc. something due to these tires claiming "BMB broke our shxx"?
Your reputation far exceeds what anyone can claim about you and your products, and I'm not trying to brown nose. Only way I see this going sour is if people assume your donation is a "approval from the grand wizard".

Yup and that's my point here. A part supplier can only control so much. I see no negative outcome here. Hopefully it encourages people who are using large tires to install a proper braking system. On my last LJ, I did have 37s and you and I had discussions about that which led me to ordering your kit. Unfortunately sold it before I installed it. This go around, 37s won't be happening for the multitude of issues it caused

it's marketing to a different crowd is all.
they seem more about lookin cool than any real function (at least in this point of the build), and there are a lot of folks that are similar. i'd bet 80%^ of all jeep mods are done for appearance purposes, from rims to those fugly grills.
and they were smart enough to warn it's not drive-able like that, which should equate to anyone with common sense they really don't fit.

the need for the product is introduced by increased vehicle weights and /or upgraded large wheels and that's across the market spectrum.

now the issue become is all the extra coin your gonna potentially pull in cover the annoyance of having to answer questions for a tons of guys that only know how to screw things on.

i doubt the Co's reputation will be tarnished or diminished in this crowd (O-R community) because you chose to expand your market.

Yeah, that part is a problem. My immediate reaction when I first clicked on the video was to click back and stop because that does nothing for me on builds type scenarios and the longer I watched the more reinforced my initial impression became. However, I know from Savvy's T-shirts they designed every year for KOH to sell that the ones with some scantily clad female on them sold 100-1 over those that just had something to do with the event and Savvy. So, if I understood marketing, I wouldn't be asking the question.

I see it as a matter of can v. should. The donation endorses the should decision- if you run 38s on stock axles, you should use BMB's products.

1. Use clickbait titles for your videos (i.e. "CAN YOU FIT 38s WITH NO LIFT!? YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!").
2. Make clickbait cover image for videos.
3. Get your girlfriend / wife to act mildly slutty and be your Vanna White.
4. Make sure you know just enough of what you're talking about to sound like a smart person, but don't know anything beyond that.
5. Spam forums, Facebook, and other social media outlets with your videos.

I vote do it. If it wasn’t for forums I wouldn’t have your brakes on my rig because I’d have no idea who you were. I’ve never seen BMB on YouTube that I can remember.

That's where I would draw the line. I wouldn't donate it, I'd make them pay for it.

If you don't donate it, my guess is Powerstop is next on their list.
