Do they make a gas tank skid that doesn't require any modifications?

They make a reasonable aftermarket gas Tank skid? One that’s just bolt on no modifications required. I banged mine a bit. Stupid rock.

Stock tank skids from newer jeeps aren't too bad if you don't make a habit of dropping the Jeep on them. They are also pretty affordable. A couple of dents on the factory deal are nothing to really worry about.

Was looking at the saavy. I’m only in 1” h r springs so seems like that gas tank and my po welded a receiver hitch right but sticks out 2 inches. So I’m real careful in my lines but the hitch(which I’m fixing) and the tank are getting the most clunks. I am getting better at judging clearance for what I got but this is screaming attention.to me.

TJ or LJ? If you are bashing up a TJ skid then you need to pick better lines.

The Savvy skid allows stock location and with a body lift. I normally suggest that people get the body lift, shift cable, and tank skid as a package. Then you're all set for a tummy tuck and motor mount lift. These simple mods give you more clearance than going from 30" to 35" tires!

I'd rather have the 35s. 🤫

A stock 03-06 gas tank skid can be modified so it is raised 1” if you add a a 1” body lift.

Why the distinction? LJ tank is in same position as TJ relative to axle. It's the frame and bumper that hang out an extra 5" and kill the departure angle.

Im throwing around ideas. Anyways, Here is the ding on the gas tank. And here is the receiver hitch that clanks the most on me not a whole lot for what I do like I was saying. I never just go banzai over a bunch stuff thinking all will be ok. I Was a little concerned about the gas tank that’s all. The obvious fix would be sell my rig and go get a 4.0 and just build one. But that doesn’t appeal to me honestly. Or stay home. Lol

That ding on the skid is nothing to be concerned about. That is what the skid is there for.

If you get rid of the hitch receiver and the big bumper, then you may find yourself actually using the skid. If at that point you are caving in the factory skid as a sliding surface, then you may want to think about something that can take harder hits.

You have the early TJ gas tank support that is thin sheet metal and isn't really protective like the TJ's later version which is a real skidplate introduced around 2002.

My recommendation is Savvy's 6061 aluminum gas tank skidplate which won't corrode like a steel gas tank skidplate can. Savvy's is unbelievably strong, I cannot believe the impacts mine has experienced with nothing more than scrapes to show for it. It requires no modifications anywhere to install.

This is a very old photo of my previous TJ's Savvy GTSP, I have one on my present TJ too.

If anything, he should start with a far less expensive late TJ skid that looks like it would be more than enough for what he's doing to it.

That looks like the ticket. Info I was looking for. Ty Sir!

If you order Savvy be prepared to wait, I ordered mine on December 13th and still no happy ending, so, order now.
I'm really looking forward to it getting here so I can fix the fuel puking all over the place when getting gas

I used to tip toe around with my yj on 31s. Since I’ve had this tj the last year been pushing a bit harder and into remoter areas. Expensive habit. Finding the most important bang for actual function is Challenging. The H R springs w the Rancho shocks recommended by guys on this forum has made an unbelievable difference on my rig. I appreciate it!
