Do they make a gas tank skid that doesn't require any modifications?

Warn makes a skid that requires no mods but if you are going to spend the money I would want to put a body lift on and raise that tank.

You have the early TJ gas tank support that is thin sheet metal and isn't really protective like the TJ's later version which is a real skidplate introduced around 2002.
When does it stop being sheet metal?

Or put another way, all 3 skids you mentioned are in fact sheet metal. 2 of them even have the same fabrication method in common which is cut, bent and then welded sheet metal.

The other one is stamped and formed out of 1 piece of steel sheet metal and being the same thickness as the early one, it is the design and forming process which makes it a better product, but it is still sheet metal.

@Cptnmurica, a late model TJ skid would work for your purposes. I wheeled one for a long time on 31’s and 33’s. It was all banged up, but it’s much more substantial than the early model TJ skid plates and it fully enclosed the gas tank.

In other words, let's take the single most bang for your buck modification and make it practically worthless by cutting it in half. Perfect.
So you're saying an aftermarket skid such as a Rokmen is "practically worthless" compared to a stock one if all you want is better protection for your tank without any other mods? I know you've done a lot, made a lot, and helped a lot of people but this one must have caught you on an off-day.

He's saying the 1/2" body lift is worthless when you can do so much more with an 1" or 1.25".

Not an off day at all. A 1/2" body lift is dumb and the only reason it exists is to raise a skid design above stock. A proper body lift of 1" or 1 1/4" allows you to do lots of good things that create more clearance under the rig without doing anything but hurting some folk's feelings.

Make sure you include the 50 times I've told folks that they don't need the Savvy skid and instead should use the later OEM skid because they don't wheel hard enough to use anything more.
And, out of the 50 times you've told people they don't need something, how many have listened? There are a lot of guys I know that have their rigs so overbuilt it's not funny. What I mean by overbuilt is, they have body armor, flat skids, expensive ass bumpers and a 10k winch, but never even go offroad. I ask "why" and the typical response is.... "it looks cool."
If I don't need it, I don't buy it.

My recommendation is Savvy's 6061 aluminum gas tank skidplate which won't corrode like a steel gas tank skidplate can. Savvy's is unbelievably strong, I cannot believe the impacts mine has experienced with nothing more than scrapes to show for it. It requires no modifications anywhere to install.

This is a very old photo of my previous TJ's Savvy GTSP, I have one on my present TJ too.

Jerry, What is that blue bracket attached to your diff cover?

Well fuck me. If I lived by that rule, I'd never have that TJ-6 project that I truly have enjoyed building. There is not one single aspect of it or its very large time and money suck that I need.
That's a different story. I'm sure that when finished it will have a purpose in life, kind of like my 68 Torino.
But, would you take out a second mortgage on your house to install built dana 40/60 axles in a grocery getter?

I'll be honest, most of the reason I was looking lustfully at savvy's GTS last night is because of how visible my dirty stock skid is with my new bumper.

And the other reason is I need to do the gas overflow fix and I feel better about all that work if I'm putting it back together with something new and shiny.

🤣
