My new rescue dog is desperate to avoid being abandoned again. He puts his head on my lap to stay close. The 2001 Wrangler, automatic, has a shift handle with a push button to release from position 1,2, park etc. to shift but no push of the button is needed from drive to neutral. It seems to have been that way since 2001 but not a problem until now. I would think it should also work the same way from D >>> N. Is it normal to be free to move from D to N without pushing the handle button? ... or is something broken? Where in a u tube or shop manual can I see how this works and how correct operation can be verified?
