Don't Discount Importing Parts to the UK

That’s crazy. Socialist taxes at your finest. Living in Germany a few decades ago could buy things at half the price from what the Germans paid using the vat exemption.

I’ve ordered many things recently from Amazon UK and Amazon DE.
I haven’t had to pay the taxes.

like Sweden where the vat tax is 70% 😱 on imports.
VAT is higher than US State and local sales taxes for sure, no idea on the respective coverage. I guess the way it works is that in the same way as you do not pay VAT on items you order from abroad I should not pay US sales taxes. I just tested the Quadratec website and I see if I order a part for delivery to a US address it does add the state sales tax for the delivery state, whereas for an order to the UK it does not, so at least I would not be paying double tax costs.

Just a heads up, if anyone is looking at placing an order with Quadratec soon they currently have a 10% off promotion. Like so many of these things when you get to ghe small print there are a lot of exclusions, but I thought I would flag in case it was helpful to anyone.

Noted Chris. The trick will be finding a good supplier that is willing to sort the shipping to the UK out. Any thoughts?
Summit Racing ships to UK. Have you also tried buying on eBay with their global shipping program? Works great for me.

I use Rockauto.com a LOT for spare parts and they normally arrive around 7 days later to Australia. Might be worth a look for the UK also. FWIW I also use Quadratec and find them pretty good for international purchasers.

Just to add to this, I've recently been able to successfully order from the following. They all include the UK import VAT and Customs Duty in the final price so you're able to get a good idea of what you're paying.

Summit Racing
Morris 4x4 (2 orders arrived and the 3rd was out of stock so they refunded it to me)
Amazon Global Shipping (Just the USA Amazon website)
Ebay Global Shipping - Also, keep an eye out on the listing pages. They now have a tag for certain EU purchases stating "zero import charges. I believe they now include it in the price as well. Screen shot attached.

Good stuff..I’ve ordered an OE air filter box via eBay on that basis..awaiting the next discount incentive to order a big package from Quadratec..I’ll look at Morris..

That's interesting. I was put off Morris as the feedback on here was very variable. However, there website is useful as I must admit I have used it to test the accuracy of my own spreadsheet calculations on duty and VAT. Good to hear you had a good experience with them.

One positive re Quadratec is that the rep who posts on hear (Hailey) seems very helpful. There was a glitch on my order, so I messaged her on here and she got it all straightened out.

I have a couple of things I want from a smaller company, Rocky Road Outfitters, who are the only people I have found so far that can suply an adjustable front track bar for RHD. It is useful to have a list of those retailers that will ship to the UK as some, such as 4LowParts, won't and others, like Savvy, will but the quoted shipping costs mean that in reality nobody in their right mind would ever place an order. On that basis I'll have a look at Summit, thanks for mentioning.

It's definitely useful. Do you want to update your OP with a list of suppliers that will ship to the UK?

Many years back (?2008) I ordered successfully from 4WD Hardware, but now they not only don’t ship to the UK but their website even blocks me...

I think that is due to some companies, especially small ones, not wanting to incur the cost of complying with EU driven GDPM legislation.

I think you are right - in fact I used a VPN to view the 4WD page and they offer international shipping!
Good shout on the VPN. Currently trying to find a pair of OEM fenders so will try a few of the websites that were blocked. EU sellers are charging stupid money for them!

I had a slightly odd issue with them (Quadratec) wanting more info on the credit card (even though my card company said it was fine). Top tip: you can use Skype to call US toll free numbers free. Ignore its attempts to make you buy credit, just tap on Call and then the keypad icon, select USA at the top, then enter the number without the 1 (so just 800-...). Much better than email pingpong.

Thnx I’ve started using Skype again a lot more after the shock of a few Continental calls on my normal landline 🙈

Top tip, thanks for that.
