DrDmoney’s 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport

Do you really want to die without owning an atlas 🤣

My wife doesn't want to go through a pandemic without a peloton so I'm currently trying not to spend money also. 😪

*she does have to watch all the children right now though so she'll ultimately win this battle.
I love my peloton FYI!!!

No problem, I need to get my message count up without having to buy something to install anyway.😆

Just be like @Midnight LJR and promise us something great but never show it to us.

I was thinking mechanical as well. I heard they offer a black Friday deal but I don't know if I can last that long.
Unfortunately, with the way the market's going I can't believe I'll be getting much of a bonus this year. 😪

I have missed so many days in the last four months, I’ve lived in this house for 10 years working out of town the whole time, between my foot surgery and now C-19, I’ve been home more days than the ten year total.

FED-EX just dropped off my GenRight Crawler Tank off so it looks like I’ve got a rainy day project, and guess what? It just started raining. Sure wish I didn’t have 3/4‘s of a tank of gas.

Going to do a weight comparison to the factory tank, I expect it will be heavier but hopefully not by much.

The capacity is the same as factory but this tank gets me 1” more ground clearance And 5“ more clearance behind the diff.

46.8 LBS with hardware as shipped. I’ll get another weight with the pump and filler neck just for grins. 😁

I put the Jeep up on stands, pulled the rear wheels, cribbed up the tank with some 4 x 4’s, disconnected the wires, lines, filler neck, and dropped the tank. I pulled the filler neck off and removed the pump. I siphoned 14 gals of gas out but ran out of cans to put it in, still a few left in it.
i put all the parts on the new tank, I also pulled the rear shocks and the tailpipe from my exhaust.

threw it on the scale.

It’s at 50.8 fully dressed.

I hope the guy who did the welds on that tank gets a good bonus. They look amazing.

I pulled the shocks to make it easier to access the rear axle to do some welding at the upper CA bracket. The front brackets had some spot welds break and I didn't want to have to deal with this on the trail. The uppers have an offset washer that gives you some adjustment and since all my CA’s are double adjustable I’m going to weld them in place.

They’re not going anywhere now!

I pulled the filler neck back off so I could dry fit the tank and mark the 2 holes I need to drill in the frame, I taped a bag over the nipples to keep debris out. I just layer under the Jeep and pulled the tank onto my chest, it was pretty easy to hold up while I put the 4 nuts on the rear cross member. I slid it all the way back in the slots and snugged it up. I put a stand under the tank to raise it to the right height, marked the 2 holes I need to drill in the frame, and pulled the tank back out. I opted for the frame sleeves for the through bolts in the frame. Rather than drill all the way through from under the Jeep I transferred the marks to the outside, the frame sleeves need a 3/8” hole on one side and a 5/8” on the other so you can slide the sleeve in and weld it. I couldn’t find my square but I found a butt hinge that worked perfectly for the task.

The hole in the hinge was even in the right place to use for layout.
i drilled the 3/8” holes on the tank side and the larger ones on the outside so it would be easier to drill and weld. I reamed the hole out to where it just fit, beveled it so I could grind it flush and still have plenty of weld.

then I painted a self portrait on the frame to add class and to prevent rust.

Time to put it all back together now. I wire brushed the upper shock mounts an hit them with some paint cause I saw a little rust on them, put anti seize on the bolts and bolted the uppers. I also cleaned up the lowers with a
Pearl disc so the eye would slide in easier (they had a little rock rash on them).

Smashed my dam finger putting the wheels back on so I quit for the day, shes all back together with a sexy new ba-donk-a-donk. I’ll empty the old tank and get a weight on it to see how much weight I added.
