I swapped out my Dana 35 for a Dana 44 yesterday. I have a 98 Sport 4.0 with a manual and a 2 inch lift. The Dana 44 came from a 05 TJ. When I reinstalled the driveshaft I had to put effort in pushing the slip joint in enough to get the u-joint end of the shaft over the pinion flange ears. Once the u-joints were seated that end of the driveshaft moved rearward about 1/2 inch. This was with the Jeep on the ground and weight on the axle. I was wondering if there is a significant rear driveshaft length difference for a TJ with a Dana 35 vs Dana 44?

Thanks,

Dan

Double check this but I believe the 44 driveshaft is shorter. You may need to shorten your current drive shaft to prevent binding.

ETA: A quick search shows the 35 shaft is 13.5" and the 44 is 11".

I have an 04 TJ, I recently replaced my dana 30/35 diffs with dana 44's. Added a SYE kit and driveshaft and a 4" lift. Both shafts are too long, by about 2". When you raise the pinions to account for the double cardan joint angles to zero. it shortens the length from Pinion to Pinion.
