Driveshaft clunk

So I need expertise
I recently broke my drive shaft driving up a gravel road.

Prior to that and now with my new shaft my jeep slams when I let out clutch in first gear. I noticed that the end play at the pinion yoke was about a quarter turn. Can someone tell me if this is excessive, is that my problem and or something else

Define "end play" Are you talking about have much you can rotate it before if moved the ring gear or how much you can move it for e and aft in the yoke itself. If rotation not too bad. If fore and aft Bad News.
