Hi friends! I'm looking to replace the ashtray in my 2000 TJ with switches and USB outlets. What's your favorite drop-in (with minor modification) set of switches and USB outlets (like the picture below)?

Here's where I want to put it....

Could you use a second OEM switch panel? I recall this guy making them from a 3D printer. For me, I don't have enough switches yet, but I like the 3D printer version.

If you want to use a second OEM switch here are two DIYs:

@skrelnik , good call with the Etsy product. I'm always nervous before cutting too much plastic. If I do go forward with the cutting, I think I'll go with the 3D printer version, sanded and painted.

Thanks for the help.

Ha, I just cut my plastic ashtray out with my dremel. Trying to get my honeydo list down so I can focus on getting the wiring done and finish the install. I went with a switch that looks like the one you posted, it just a 6 gang with the voltage meter in the middle. I'll post some pics when I finish.

Yeah @brianb2 I'd love to see pictures once it's complete. Now I'm not sure if I want to just replace the existing switch panel, the ashtray, or both and have switches and power ports all the way across.

If someone was looking to keep their ash tray unmodified the switch panel in my 06 LJ might be worth a look.

I’m not sure if it would fit all years but it has 4 switch locations, no ash tray, and came with two cig. lighter sockets from the factory. One socket is hot all the time and the other is hot when the key is on.

I changed the actual lighter socket and element over to a blue sea dual USB changer.

I don’t know if these are still available from FCA but If not, Davey’s Jeep might be a good place to contact.

@jgaz You version is money too. I might go with the model that replaces the top heater vent with two switches and smaller vents on each side. Then replace the ashtray with two more USB power ports. Especially since my model doesn't have the second power port for some reason.

Either that or go with @Jeep9748 path....which is awesome.

One of the first things I added to mine was a pair of USB charging ports.

Here's what I did, I bought another panel from ebay and cut out the ashtray and put it in the hole. Then added more switches for my lockers and winch (the camera makes it look wonky in the picture, but it is actually straight and nice looking IRL)

The switches are for my front and rear e-lockers and the winch switch is from 12volt guy.

So if you don't have a winch, you can add a usb port where my winch switch is because the panel comes with a power plug or at least a hole for one.

Oh and actually I added a usb port on my console here:

So quick update....I have had that thing for awhile and love it. I strongly suggest that even if you don't have anything that needs power at the time to pre-wire the terminals... by this I mean pre make wire and attach them to the switchs and run the wires out from behind the dash (for future hook ups). This will make life great in the event you want to wire something up and don't want to tear your dash apart. Also I made a switch panel for above the windshield. Its mostly for fun right now, BUT I may hook it up to whatever.

Just ordered a switch panel from custom3dproducts on ebay, and 4 additional TJ style switches from gold coast distributing. Have been really pleased with the oem style custom labeled switches from GCD so far, can't wait to have 6 of them in my dash. Awesome!!
