Dual Purpose Rear Seat / Cargo Area Ideas

Rivnuts were my plan to mount the Packout plate. It would have either been that or stainless self tappers.

...

The advantage to using nutserts / rivnuts to secure the rack is that you can easily remove and install the screws over and over. You can't do that with stainless self tappers in sheet metal.

I have the small mount with 2 boxes in the Tuffy Instatrunk. It's just not enough to store what I want to carry on the trail. All of my recovery gear and air hose is lose under the back seat. I figured that mounting a couple packout where the seat goes would secure that and add more storage. I had a soft shackle go flying last weekend 😆

The recovery gear + kid struggle is real. Always interested in better setups.

Curious as to what else you’re trying to fit.

I had to switch to the Bestop rear seat with the headrests but I’ve got the following permanently installed with my rear seat installed.

  • Winch controller + soft shackle between the driver door and seat
  • Under the rear is
  • Tool kit, mix of 1/2, 3/8 sockets, screw drivers etc
  • Blankets, jacket, first aid kit, jumper cables, wheel chock
  • Zip ties and ratchet straps in the Bartact pockets
  • Soft shackle and fire extinguisher around the rear rollbar section.
  • Trunk has dry bag with clothes, rain coat, candle lantern type stuff
  • “Pelican” hard side case for laptop which gets swapped out for compressor on trail rides, or goes into the gear box.
  • Plus other gear such as battery jumper, flashlight, fuses, snacks, in the center console.
With 2/3 kids I can strap a coho gear box for more gear or a day cooler into either the front pass or one of the rear seats and still fit the booster.

Mainly spare parts (easy trail fix parts) and tools. I keep my soft shackles with pulleys down beside the driver seat. I have the winch remote in the center console, and my tree saver is currently under the back seat.

Can you leave the track in place AND use the rear seat, or do you need to remove the front track for the seat?

The track does not interfere with the back seat.

Took that right now 😃

This is actually one of the best setups I have seen for securing cargo in the back of a non-commercial vehicle.

Its really versatile stuff. I was made aware of it when I built a roof rack for a TJ Rubicon. The guy had two strips of it with end trim caps installed to the hard top to attach the rack to. Even had it powder coated the color of the top.

Dont have installed pics but I got picks of the rack :D

I have been using the same after stealing the idea off a forum years ago. I suggest you up the ante by adding these… No more having the hooks slip out the loops when you are at the opposite end trying to cinch thigs down…

Sort of doing that now for strapping down the Frontrunner boxes.

Quick link the hook on the front rail so ya don't have to cuss at it and just hook the rear.
