Dynomax muffler install

Removed the stock exhaust shown and replaced it with the parts seen last night. Dynomax super turbo.

Sharing sound clips from the install further below. Was looking to get that performance gain and not be any louder than I need be. After looking at muffler difference and how to get quiet performance.. video reference below from David Vizard. If you remember the Cyclone Header company this might have more weight in you consideration. It’s only 20 mins nd you could skip over the first 3-4 minutes intro.

Went with the Dynomax part number 17749 with the full offset to take best advantage of the original flow director design. If you keeping the cat on - recommend you stay with the center inlet part number. What I like is that it does not neck down internally and runs two 180 degree turns to maximize its time in the muffler.

I based line some 3rd gear pulls from 2000 RPM to 4500 RPMs pre modification. Averaged out they were 11.43 seconds

Stock sound clip taken at 8’

I will come back with updated timing when my co-pilot is available but I my attempt to self time I was in the 10’s. So it’s got a little more pep.

Updated: 10.8 is the new average..that’s 5.5% improvement. I will take that and the wife commented there is no difference in sound going down the road, another win. Looking forward to seeing if the MPG follows with some improvement.

Dynomax sound clip again at 8’

Over all the sound once warmed up is very good, going down the road at cruise. A little louder of course under full load but nothing that brings attention. Cold start idle is most notable with deeper and louder tone. Tempted to go full implementation and add a resonator, just to see what it does/ or not do.

I saw this video a while ago. I'm not sure that it would be easy to package in a TJ. I will likely try his method when I buy a motorhome.

Remove the third cat on he TJ and I think it’s very doable for space but difficulty to run the offset in/ outs. I think one would have to go back to the center in…which is a compromise from the original design. Obviously a tubing bender would also make that work…but find an exhaust shop that would do it….

My opinion there is replacement for case length if you want make sure there is no drone. I have ran Magna flow it different lengths, chamber mufflers….I was toying with doing the Jeep with a 43” long glass pack…still curious how that would sound 🤔. I would definitely go for it on a motor home.

just adding this note- this 17345 kit uses a smaller case muffler so it will be little louder and I also retained the stock tailpipe for the moment since this was a garage hack.

I wonder if it will work with a driver's side drop. You need a long tube header, ~18" collector Into a chamber. I don't know if a 90 degree bend straight off the collector extension would ruin the system.

Not sure if I am picturing your thought here, thinking of coming off the exhaust and cross over to passenger side behind the oil pan? I don’t have much room do anything driver side but with more suspension and 1.25 body lift maybe? 🤷🏽‍♂️
