E85 TJ Turbo

This is an awesome, high quality build!!! Looking forward to see what she does on the dyno with E85!!! The weak link on these engines is the factory head gasket to push it over 10PSI stock, but with E85 and the cometic MLS head gasket, you should be safe with 12PSI! ARP studs are always good insurance too!

Thanks for correcting me on that. E85 is going to be crazy for sure.

I'm surprised that with 7 mains that there would be any issues. From what I've seen more failures are caused by bad tuning and other systems failing than too much power for parts.

I guess that it will be full time E85?

Yea it will be full time e85. The e85 at my local station is always consistent year round. I will be installing the 12 psi spring onto my wastegate so i hope the engine can take it. I wish I would have installed the arp head studs while I was in there but we’ll see what kind of abuse the felpro ones can take haha. Today I welded on the recirculated wastegate tube onto my downpipe and tomorrow I will weld on the afr bung.

My Jeep TJ uses a returnless fuel system with a fpr built into the fuel pump module. I bought a gas tank from a 02 tj and am going to use a module from an 04 tj. I bought a regulator bypass from Novak and will be welding a 3/8 barb fitting onto it to make it compatible with the e85 walbro 450 I am installing. I will get it anodized so it is compatible with e85 in the long run. I am also using a bulk head fitting to convert the Pump into a return system and I will be using a manual fpr and ptfe fuel lines with anodized fuel rail. I will post pics next week so you guys know exactly what I’m talking about. My only concern right now is that the gas tank I bought is a bit beat up and I’m not sure if I should run it with e85. My goal is to buy a gen right aluminum fuel tank and get it anodized but they are so expensive and If I wait to buy one it will take a couple of months. I also need this fitting

which comes with the GenRight fuel tanks to be able to attach the stock evap hose on my 06 tj. I called gen right but they are not willing to just sell me the fitting. If you guys have any ideas please let me know. Also if you know who makes an aluminum oil pan for our cars. Thanks

When I went from pump 93 to E50, the ethanol cleaned all the varnish out of the fuel system. The carburetor started acting funny and I found a jelly type substance about a 1/4" deep in the bowls. I believe I remember some injectors getting stopped up from gasoline jelly. Something to keep an eye on.

I sent off my compressor housing to get some work done to it so I haven’t been able to start on my intercooler piping but I will be getting it back soon. I did have some time to start piecing together my fuel system. Here is some of the parts I will be using. I wasn’t sure about the fuel rail I ordered but now that I have it; I am amazed with the quality. It’s a fasster brand fuel rail and the only aluminum anodized fuel rail I could find. I almost had one custom made but I’m so glad I ordered this one.

I got a starter heat shield because my downpipe comes real close to the starter. I also started to take apart the stock fuel lines and evap lines since I learned from Chris that the evap system can be disabled using Hp tuners. Makes life so much easier.

Got my intercooler anodized and my fuel regulator bypass anodized as well to protect it from the ethanol. I also put together my walbro 450. I drilled the pickup hole under the module to allow more fuel and drilled 3 small holes on the side of the module housing to always have a good supply of fuel inside the assembly since the turbine walbro tends to heat up if fuel level drops. I installed a louvre on the hood as well. I drilled a hole on top of the fuel pump housing for a return line.

Looks like it's coming together awesome so far. How are you going to handle the radiator fan and cooling with that big intercooler blocking most of it?

I'm assuming a big SPAL electric fan or something?

For now I am planning on leaving my stock fan in place with a bigger 2 or 3 row radiator. I just haven’t found a good source for a reliable radiator. The e85 and big free flowing exhaust should help the engine run a bit cooler and require less cooling from the radiator. I know the louvre won’t make the engine run cooler since the thermostat is in place but I’m sure it will help dissipate heat faster requiring less cooling from the radiator as well. I have an appointment with the tuner set up for Saturday so I need to hurry up and get her finished.

Thanks. My deadline is tonight since I will be dyno tuning it tomorrow afternoon. I just need to get the fuel lines finished up.
