Lighting issue
Hello TJ friends I am an Idahoan that finally bought a TJ and have been so excited it’s a 2003 with a 3.5 lift. 130000 miles.
Then one day on my way to work I found a Roadmaster wiring diode on the floor but didn’t think much of it. Until one evening it got dark and I needed the lights. Except the dash wouldn’t illuminate. The gauges all work, and so do the icons that light up when the jeep starts. I replaced the dash lights with led and plugged back in. No change. I got on the forums here and decided to replace the multifunction switch and the ignition switch. Still no change. Then I found a thread saying they replaced the park light fuse and that is when I discovered the tail lights also do not work. The headlights, fog lights, brake lights turn signals and cabin lights all work. Then I remembered that diode so I looked under the dash and found there are two more still wired in. But the third one, the one that fell burnt the wires off and that is how it came loose. I went through every fuse behind the glove box and under the hood and found no blown fuses or missing fuses. I want to replace the stereo at some point so I removed it and all speakers just to make sure it wasn’t causing any problems. (It has problems but that is another day.) I looked up these diodes and I think the previous owner must have been towing it as these are to protect current from flowing from the rv to the vehicle. They spliced into the factory harness to add this in. At this point I believe it must be something with this but am in over my head. I want to remove the diodes and disconnect the wires but that doesn’t put back whatever is out based on what or how they connected. How do I get my lights back? I think it may be time to take it to a shop. Any help would be appreciated!
