I found this contest they had on swling.com. Which is a top level shortwave radio site with tons of comms info. The contest was worldwide and asked peoole to come up with their best emergency comms outfit under $400.
I dont think that cheap satphone works here. But if it did how cool would that be?!
Most entries used baofeng radios for ham, tecsun radios for am/fm/sw etc listening. And a cheap sat phone. Anyone know what the cheapest sat phone in the US is? Apparently overseas you can get a $75 sat phone and some minimal serice for like fidty bucks or something.
