How much money does he have to spend first? There are a ton of engine swap threads already.

For a 2004 model his options are:

1) Hemi
2) LS

Both are going to need a new transmission & transfer case & then a minimum of a new (larger) rear axle.

He'll need $10K minimum and that is if you do everything on the cheap

Shoot if he had just got the dang 4.0 like I told him I feel like hed be plenty happy with the power it can produce, no coyote killer by any means but I dont think hes expecting the price tag of 10 grand.

To do it "right" you aren't going to do it for cheaper.

$2-3K for a engine & $1K for a transmission if you're lucky. Then another $300-500 for a transfer case or you can get a 23 spline input gear for his current t-case.
Then $1K for a rear axle and you'll be lucky to find a Dana 44 for that price. And then $2K for blending wiring harnesses And then a ton of little things that always cost more then you think.

I'm on my second V-8 swap and they aren't cheap. And doing a 4.0 into a 4 cyl TJ isn't cheap either once you add up all the work.
