So I just took advantage of Midlands Cyber Monday discounts. I ordered the MXT500, external speaker and 6db gain antenna. I’m working on getting an Arizona Rocky Road roll cage radio mount.
I want to get an A-Pillar antenna bracket any suggestions on what to get? I screwed up and forgot to order an antenna cable for the 6db antenna. Do I need to check the SWR if I order the antenna cable from Midland? I have a CB SWR meter but I believe that will not work on GMRS. Am I missing anything?
 
The CB SWR meter will not work. Cables are easy. While you could probably get away with not checking your SWR, especially considering the 50w rig, it's cheap insurance. The meters can be had cheap.

I have been happy with my Surecom SW-102S SO239 Connector Digital VHF UHF 125-525Mhz Power & SWR Meter available on Amazon for about $55. That’s more than many will want to spend but I am always tweaking my antennas and get a fair bit of use out of it.
