Back when I was a young pup in the military, I drank a lot of beer with my buddies.

Payday was on the 15th and the 30th. Oregon had a beverage container tax.

On payday we drank Bud or Miller. Mid-way we drank Hamms or Oly, just before payday we drank Rainier.

If we had the weekend off and payday was Monday, we were usually broke. Around 1979 is when generic beer came out. White can with the word beer in black letters. I could turn in the empties and get enough to buy a six pack of generic Beer-Beer.

Those were the good old days. Is generic beer still around?

I remember when that beer came out. I don't think I knew who the brewer was. I don't think I even tried it. I was probably drinking Budwieser then, and eventually switched to Bud light.

No where near anything I would drink today but back in high school my friends and I did our part of keeping them in business

In college, there was one frat that threw keggers pretty regularly - typical Bud Light, Coors Light, etc. BUT.... they always got one keg of Hamms to bring out for the last keg of the night.

No matter what time of night (or early morning) it was, or what condition you were in, you knew the party was winding down when that thing came out!

It's tough these days with so many of the beer suppliers we used to buy back in the day either shut down or sold out to the big corporations who changed the recipe to make it more profitable to them. My cheap beer of choice back in the 90s was Miller Lite, I was not a fan of the sweet aftertaste Bud Light has. Never tried Hamms, not sure they had that in the SouthEast.

The white can generic Beer beer was a thing as a young man but living in the NW I was all but weaned on Rainier. In college it was Rainier when we were feeling flush with cash and Heidelberg when we weren't. The case price for warm hbombs was just too cheap to ignore. Now it's nothing but good micros unless I want a beer in my hand all day then it's Guinness Draught nitro cans because of the low ABV. If I can't find them it's Coors Light.

My college days are more recent than others but I enjoyed miller lite for my cheap beer drinking. Had a friend who would pick up the Kirkland light 48 pack for $23. That stuff was disgusting.

My go-to is Coors Light or Coors. In the summertime I like Mountain Time (New Belgium).
